In July 2022, the construction output decreased by 2.7%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. In the month-on-month (m-o-m) comparison, it was by 2.9% lower. The planning and building control authorities granted by 9.2% less building permits, y-o-y. The approximate value of permitted constructions decreased by 61.0%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings decreased by 28.6%, y-o-y. The number of completed dwellings decreased by 6.0%, y-o-y.
“In July, construction output decreased, year-on-year, after 15 months, when also building construction joined insignificant outputs in civil engineering construction. When taking into account a rather low comparison basis, the result is not very satisfactory. We have recorded a decrease in both the segments also in the month-on-month comparison,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO, says.
The construction output was by 2.9% lower, m-o-m, in real terms. In the year-on-year comparison, it decreased by 2.7%. Compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, the production in building construction decreased by 2.1%. The production of civil engineering construction decreased by 4.0%, y-o-y.
The planning and building control authorities granted 6 936 building permits; it was by 9.2% less, y-o-y. The approximate value of the permitted constructions reached CZK 34.6 billion and compared to the corresponding period of 2021 it decreased by 61.0%. “The approximate value decreased thanks to new construction in civil engineering construction, in which it increased last July over three times owing to granting of the building permit for construction of the D line of the underground. After deduction of constructions with the value in the amount of billions, it is a decrease by a tenth,” Drahomíra Dušková from the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO explains.
The number of dwellings started decreased by 28.6%, y-o-y, and reached the number of 2 726 dwellings. The number of dwellings completed decreased by 6.0%, y-o-y, and amounted to 2 755 dwellings.
The average registered number of employees in construction increased by 0.1%, y-o-y. Their average gross monthly nominal wage increased by 7.6%, y-o-y.
According to Eurostat, construction output in the EU27 in June 2022 increased by 0.6%, year-on-year. Buildings increased by 0.8% and civil engineering works by 0.1%. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for July 2022 on 19 September 2022.
Notes:
The year-on-year development of construction output (production) has been adjusted for the influence of the number of working days. Month-on-month or quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted.
