Construction - May 2025

“In May, the construction output recorded a double-digit growth when it was by 11.6% higher, year-on-year. The growth took place in both the civil engineering construction and the building construction and it was partially contributed to by a low comparison basis,” Petra Kačírková from the Construction Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO) says. Production in building construction increased by 10.8%, y-o-y, and the civil engineering construction increased by 13.1%, y-o-y. Month-on-month, construction output was by 2.3% higher in May.

The approximate value of constructions for which a building permit was granted in May reached CZK 32.0 billion and decreased by 39.6%, year-on-year.  

Construction of 2 673 dwellings started and the number decreased by 5.2%, year-on-year. “In May, 3 051 dwellings were completed, which was a year-on-year increase by 5%. The growth took place in the segment of modificationsd/alterations to existing buildings, new construction was in the doldrums,” Petra Cuřínová, Head of the Construction Statistics Unit of the CZSO, explains.

According to Eurostat data, the construction output in the EU27 in April 2025 increased by 2.5%, year-on-year. According to a preliminary release calendar, Eurostat will release data for May 2025 on 18 July 2025.
