Graph Development of total of the construction output

Year-on-year, total construction output at constant prices was up by 10.2% in June.

Construction work of contractors and subcontractors to enterprises with 20+ employees grew by 10.5% year-on-year at constant prices. Increases were registered for nearly all kinds of construction work. New construction, reconstruction and modernisation (+10.2%) contributed to this growth with 8.7 percentage points, repair and maintenance (+12.8%) with 1.5 percentage points, construction work carried out abroad (+54.0%) with 0.9 percentage points. Other work fell (-43.0%) and contributed with -0.6 percentage points.

Employment in construction enterprises with 20+ employees was higher by 0.7%. The average monthly nominal wage of employees increased by 4.9% year-on-year and reached CZK 20 428, the real wage rose by 2.0%. The average hourly wage increased by 4.3% year-on-year and stood at CZK 126. Labour productivity per employee was up by 9.8% and labour productivity per hour worked grew by 9.2%. Unit wage costs dropped by 4.5%.

The planning and building control authorities granted 12 186 building permits in June 2006 (of which 6 366 for new constructions and 5 820 for renewals and enhancements). The number of building permits granted decreased by 10.9% year-on-year.

The approximate value of constructions permitted in June 2006 reached CZK 26.4 billion (of which new constructions made up CZK 17.2 billion and renewals and enhancements CZK 9.2 billion). Compared to June 2005, approximate value was down by 12.7% and the value of permitted renewals and enhancements fell by 28.8% (contribution -12.3 percentage points), most the value of other constructions (-34.8%, contribution -5.6 percentage points). This decrease was caused by the high year-on-year comparable basis for civil engineering works, namely highway sections, both completed and started. The value of permitted new constructions dropped by 0.7% (contribution -0.4 percentage points). On the other hand, approximate value of residential buildings grew by 20% (contribution +5.3 percentage points) year-on-year.

The planning and building control authorities permitted 3 703 dwellings to be constructed, which was by 427 dwellings more than in June 2005. Out of that, 3 017 dwellings will be built as new constructions (+587 permitted dwellings year-on-year) and 686 dwellings will be obtained by renewals and enhancements (-160 permitted dwellings year-on-year). The approximate value of newly permitted dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings reached CZK 7.7 billion.

The planning and building control authorities permitted the construction of buildings with a floor space of 679.7 thousand m2 (+10.0% on June 2005), of which residential buildings made up 407.8 thousand m2 (+8.7%) and non-residential buildings 271.8 thousand m2 (+12.0%). The floor space of new buildings was 624.7 thousand m2 and of renewals and enhancements 55 thousand m2. The average floor space of 127.1 m2 per dwelling with approximate value CZK 19.3 thousand per m2 was permitted for new construction of residential buildings.
