Construction - September 2004
Growth of construction output slowed down
Publication Date: 09. 11. 2004
Product Code: r-8202-04
Seasonally adjusted construction output at constant prices was 0.8% down m-o-m .
Total construction output at constant prices increased by 3.2% or 4.4% if adjusted for the number of working days (there was 1 less working day in September 2003) y-o-y.
The construction output continued to grow but its growth rate slowed down. The slowdown was partially due to the high reference basis of last year (year-on-year index in September 2003 = 114.5 %). The growth slowed down in both segments of construction – i.e. both in building and civil engineering. The volume of construction work on repairs and maintenance of constructions decreased.
The number of employees in construction enterprises with 20+ employed people rose by 4.0%. The average monthly wage of employees reached CZK 18 249 and increased by 4.8% y-o-y; real wage increasing by 1.7%. Average hourly wage amounted to CZK 119 and increased by 8.0%. Unit wage costs were 5.7 % up. (All y-o-y).
The planning and building control authorities granted 14 958 building permits (of which 7 625 for new construction and 7 333 for renewals and enhancements). The approximate value of the constructions approved in September was CZK 29.5 billion (of which new constructions accounted for CZK 19.5 billion and renewals and enhancements for CZK 10.0 billion). The distinctly higher approximate value resulted from building permits granted for other highway constructions and business and community centres.
The planning and building control authorities permitted 3 839 dwellings to be constructed – a decrease of 210 dwellings y-o-y. New construction should provide 3 110 dwellings (a drop of 163 dwellings). The number of new dwellings obtained by renewals and enhancements will reach 729 (47 less permitted dwellings). Increases are thus only recorded for the number of new permitted dwellings in non-residential buildings: +72 dwellings from new construction and +23 dwellings from repairs and enhancements. The approximate value per dwelling was CZK 2.4 million (new construction) and CZK 1.4 million (renewals and enhancements).
