Builders accelerated their growth rate

Seasonally adjusted construction output at constant prices was 1.4% up month-on-month .

Year-on-year , total construction output at constant prices increased by 9.9% or 6.9% if adjusted for the number of working days (there were 2 more working days in November 2004) .

The growth accelerated in new construction in building and civil engineering. The volume of construction work on repairs and maintenance of constructions decreased mildly.

The number of employees in construction enterprises with 20+ employed people rose by 4.7%. The average monthly wage of employees reached CZK 21 482 and increased year-on-year by 7.6%, while the real wage increased by 4.6%. Average hourly wage amounted to CZK 138 and decreased by 0.3%. Labour productivity per employee increased by 4.9 % and labour productivity per hour worked decreased by 2.8 %. Unit wage costs were 2.6 % up. The wages and employment indicators were also affected by the higher number of working days in November 2004.

The planning and building control authorities granted 13 501 building permits in November (of which 6 893 for new construction and 6 608 for renewals and enhancements). The approximate value of the constructions permitted in November was CZK 28.9 billion (of which new constructions accounted for CZK 21.9 billion and renewals and enhancements for CZK 7.0 billion).

The planning and building control authorities permitted 3 398 dwellings to be constructed – a decrease of 434 dwellings year-on-year. New construction should provide 2 746 dwellings (a decrease of 267 dwellings). The number of new dwellings obtained by renewals and enhancements will reach 652 (by 167 less). The figures on the new dwellings are influenced by the high reference basis of November 2003. The approximate value of the newly permitted dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings reached CZK 7.5 billion. The approximate value per dwelling was CZK 2.5 million for new construction or CZK 1.0 million for renewals and enhancements.
