Fewer working days, lower construction output

Seasonally adjusted construction output at constant prices was 2.2% up m-o-m .

According to reported figures, construction output at constant prices increased year-on-year by 0.3% or 3.9% if adjusted for working days (WDA - there were 3 less working days in July 2004) .

The smaller number of working days (the average number of hours worked per employee in July 2004 was 13 hours less y-o-y) affected the development in all segments of the construction market.

The number of persons employed in construction enterprises with 20+ employees rose by 3.8%. The average monthly wage of employees reached CZK 18 495 and increased by 3.6% y-o-y, while the real wage decreased by 0.4%. The average hourly wage amounted to CZK 128 and increased by 12.5%.

Planning and building control authorities granted 13 012 building permits (of which 6 384 for new construction and 6 628 for renewals and enhancements). The approximate value of the constructions permitted in July was CZK 25.5 billion (of which new constructions accounted for CZK 17.5 billion and renewals and enhancements for CZK 8.0 billion).

Planning and building control authorities permitted 2 984 dwellings to be constructed – a decrease of 724 year-on-year. New construction should provide 2 348 dwellings (a decrease of 659 year-on-year). The number of new dwellings to be obtained by renewals and enhancements was 636. The approximate value per dwelling was CZK 2.4 million (new construction) or CZK 1.2 million (renewals and enhancements). The decrease in the number of working days also influenced the number of buildings permits.
