Publication Date: 09. 03. 2005

Product Code: r-8202-05

Seasonally adjusted construction output at constant prices was 2.3% up month-on-month . The trend increased by 0.5 % and the growth rate accelerated moderately (see Table 3 for more information).

Year-on-year , total construction output at constant prices increased by 14.2%.

More than half of the high month-on-month and year-on-year growth of construction output was affected by a higher volume of the number of hours worked, though. In January 2005, manual workers worked by 8.8 hours on average more year-on-year (+7.5 %), which made up for the decrease in the hours worked in December 2004.

The average monthly wage of employees increased by 2.0% year-on-year to reach CZK 16 077, while the real wage increased by 0.3%. Average hourly wage decreased by 2.5% and amounted to CZK 119. Labour productivity per employee increased by 9.9 % and per hour worked by 5.2 %. Unit wage costs were by 7.3 % down.

Planning and building control authorities granted 8 713 building permits in January (of which 4 346 for new construction and 4 367 for renewals and enhancements). The approximate value of the constructions permitted in January was CZK 22.3 billion (of which new constructions accounted for CZK 16.2 billion and renewals and enhancements for CZK 6.1 billion).

The planning and building control authorities permitted 2 245 dwellings to be constructed (a decrease of 1 253 dwellings year-on-year). New construction should provide 1 629 dwellings (a decrease of 919). The number of new dwellings to be obtained by renewals and enhancements will reach 616 (a decrease of 334). The year-on-year comparison of the number of new dwellings permitted for construction is influenced by the high reference basis of January 2004. The approximate value of the newly permitted dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings reached CZK 3.9 billion. The approximate value per dwelling was CZK 2.0 million for new construction or CZK 1.1 million for renewals and enhancements.
