Publication Date: 09. 03. 2004
Product Code: r-8202-04
Seasonally adjusted construction output at constant prices was 1.4% up m-o-m.
Total construction output at constant prices increased by 15.0% or 16.4% (WDA) y-o-y (there was one less working day in January 2004 than in January 2003) . The growth of construction output returned to double-digit value. With the exception of December it is already eight months of double-digit rising in construction.
Development of construction output was affected by:
- a higher volume of building and civil engineering work on new construction;
- a lower reference basis of January 2003 ;
- “additional invoicing” of construction work on transport infrastructure in particular;
- a lower volume of construction work on repairs and maintenance.
The number of persons employed in construction rose by 2.2%. The average monthly wage of construction enterprises with 20+ employees reached CZK 15 777, rising by 4.8% nominally and 2.4% really. The average hourly wage amounted to CZK 122, rising by 6.6%. Labour productivity per employee and per hour increased by 12.3% and 14.3%, respectively. Unit wage costs were 6.7% down. (All y-o-y.)
Planning and building control authorities granted 8 692 building permits (of which 3 958 for new construction and 4 734 for renewals and enhancements). The approximate value of the constructions permitted in January was CZK 25.3 billion (of which new constructions accounted for CZK 20.3 billion and extensions to or in existing buildings for CZK 5.0 billion). The number of building permits granted and their approximate value were raised by housing construction and its infrastructure in particular. The permit for the construction of other underground lines in Prague was also a weighty positive factor.
Planning and building control authorities permitted 3 498 dwellings to be constructed, of which 2 548 as new construction and 950 as extensions. The approximate value of the newly permitted dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings stood at CZK 5.5 billion. The average approximate value per dwelling was CZK 1.9 million (new construction) or CZK 1.0 million (renewals and enhancements). The number of newly permitted dwellings was affected by the high reference basis of January 2003.
