Publication Date: 06. 04. 2004
Product Code: r-8202-04
Seasonally adjusted construction output at constant prices was 0.6% up m-o-m.
Total construction output at constant prices increased by 9.9% y-o-y.
Construction output increased on new construction, reconstruction and modernization in the building sector (construction of office and business centres, construction of housing complexes). The volume of construction work carried out abroad also went up. The fall in construction work on repairs and maintenance of buildings was attributed to the high reference basis of 2003, in which year construction work on repairs and maintenance of the Prague Metro culminated after the floods in August 2002.
The number of persons employed in construction enterprises with 20+ employees rose by 2.4%. Average monthly wage reached CZK 16 043, rising by 9.0% nominally and 6.5% really. Average hourly wage amounted to CZK 122, being by 3.5% up. Labour productivity per employee and per hour increased by 7.0% and 1.6%, respectively. Compared with February 2003, the growth of wages and productivity related per hour worked was slower due to a higher number of hours worked in February 2004 (by 7 work hours more than in February 2003). Unit wage costs were 1.9% up. (All y-o-y.)
Planning and building control authorities granted 8 595 building permits (of which 4 162 for new construction and 4 433 for renewals and enhancements). The approximate value of the constructions permitted in February was CZK 16.4 billion (of which new constructions accounted for CZK 10.1 billion and extensions to or in existing buildings for CZK 6.3 billion).
Planning and building control authorities permitted 2 043 dwellings to be constructed, of which 1 485 as new construction and 558 as renewals and enhancements. The approximate value of the newly permitted dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings stood at CZK 4.2 billion. Average approximate value per dwelling stood at CZK 2.6 million (new construction) or CZK 1.4 million (renewals and enhancements). The number of newly permitted dwellings was affected by the high reference basis of February 2003.
