Publication Date: 10. 02. 2006
Product Code: r-8202-05
In December, seasonally adjusted total construction output at constant prices rose by 0.9% month-on-month. In terms of year-on-year comparison, total construction output at constant prices was up by 8.6% (by 9.9% working days adjusted). The planning and building control authorities granted 11 645 building permits. In the year 2005, total construction output at constant prices grew by 4.2%.
***
Seasonally adjusted total construction output at constant prices grew by 0.9% month-on-month. The trend increased by 0.7% month-on-month, which was just like in November but less than in September and October 2005 (see Table 3).

Year-on-year, total construction output at constant prices was up by 8.6%, working days adjusted output (December 2005 was by 1 working day shorter) by 9.9%.
Higher growth of construction work was reached in civil engineering (+24.5%), both in new construction, reconstruction and modernisation (+28.3%) and in repair and maintenance (+7.0%). As far as building is concerned, only repair and maintenance recorded a growth (+17.7%).
Employment in construction enterprises with 20+ employees grew by 6.8% in December. The average monthly wage of employees decreased by 1.3% year-on-year and reached CZK 20 189, the real wage dropped by 3.4%. The average hourly wage increased by 1.8% and stood at CZK 171. Labour productivity per employee was up by 1.0% and labour productivity per hour worked grew by 3.9%. Unit wage costs decreased by 2.2%.
The planning and building control authorities granted 11 645 building permits in December 2005 (of which 6 134 for new constructions and 5 511 for renewals and enhancements). The number of building permits granted fell by 8.5% year-on-year.
The approximate value of constructions permitted in December 2005 reached CZK 23.2 billion (of which new constructions made up CZK 16.5 billion and renewals and enhancements CZK 6.7 billion). Compared to December 2004, the approximate value decreased by 22.2%, of which the approximate value of non-residential buildings by 14.5%, of environmental constructions by 22.9%, and of other constructions by 53.9%. The approximate value of residential buildings was up by 19.9%, of which by 24.8% in new constructions. The sharp decline in the approximate value of other constructions was affected by the high comparable basis of December 2004 when financially demanding civil engineering works were permitted for construction.
The planning and building control authorities permitted 3 792 dwellings to be constructed, which was by 686 dwellings more than in December 2004. Out of that, 2 968 dwellings will be built as new constructions (+449 permitted dwellings year-on-year). The number of new dwellings obtained by renewals and enhancements will reach 824 (+237 permitted dwellings year-on-year). The approximate value of newly permitted dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings reached CZK 7.0 billion. The average approximate value of a dwelling in a new residential building stood at CZK 2.4 million, which translates into CZK 19.8 thousand per m2 of floor space, the average size of dwelling being 120 m2. The average approximate value of a dwelling obtained by renewal or enhancement of an existing residential building was CZK 0.9 million (average size of dwelling 74 m2, CZK 12.8 thousand per m2 of floor space).
