Construction slowed down y-o-y

Publication Date: 11. 02. 2005

Product Code: r-8202-04

Seasonally adjusted construction output at constant prices was 2.0% down month-on-month .

Year-on-year , total construction output at constant prices increased by 1.3% or, if adjusted for the number of working days, decreased by 1.3% (there were 2 more working days in December 2004).

The slowdown of the construction output was especially brought about by not using part of the available working time, on the one hand, and by the winter weather in the second decade of December when construction work in the open was limited, on the other hand. A rather high growth of the construction work volume was observed in building and new construction. The volume of construction work done on repairs and maintenance diminished.

The number of employees in construction enterprises with 20+ employed people rose by 4.2%. The average monthly wage of employees increased by 1.5% year-on-year and reached CZK 20 224, while the real wage decreased by 1.3%. Average hourly wage increased by 0.1% and amounted to CZK 167. Labour productivity per employee decreased by 2.8 % and per hour worked by 4.1 %. Unit wage costs were by 4.4 % up.

The planning and building control authorities granted 12 730 building permits in December (of which 6 635 for new construction and 6 095 for renewals and enhancements). The approximate value of the constructions permitted in December was CZK 29.9 billion (of which new constructions accounted for CZK 20.5 billion and renewals and enhancements for CZK 9.4 billion). The higher approximate value of constructions in December resulted from building permits granted for more highway constructions.

The planning and building control authorities permitted 3 106 dwellings to be constructed – an increase of 52 dwellings year-on-year. New construction should provide 2 519 dwellings (a increase of 238). The number of new dwellings to be obtained by renewals and enhancements will reach 587 (a decrease of 186). The year-on-year comparison of the number of new dwellings permitted for construction is influenced by the high reference basis of December 2003. The approximate value of the newly permitted dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings reached CZK 5.7 billion. The approximate value per dwelling was CZK 2.1 million for new construction or CZK 1.1 million for renewals and enhancements.
XXX
