High growth of construction output

Publication Date: 08. 10. 2004

Product Code: r-8202-04

Seasonally adjusted construction output at constant prices was 1.4% up m-o-m .

Total construction output at constant prices increased by 9.4% or, if adjusted for the number of working days, by 8.1% (there was 1 more working day in August 2004) y-o-y.

The situation in monitoring the development of construction stabilized in August. The reporting of data in the previous months, which was affected by the transition of construction work (except for housing construction) from the reduced VAT rate of 5% to the basic VAT rate of 19%, became normal again.

The volume of work in the building grew rather fast, especially due to the continued growth of the volume of work in housing construction, in both family and multi-dwelling houses.

The volume of work carried out by small and medium-sized enterprises with 20 to 249 employees also grew rather fast (+12.8%).

The number of individuals employed in construction enterprises with 20+ employees rose by 4.4%. The average monthly wage of employees reached CZK 17 905 and increased by 8.8% y-o-y; the real wage increasing by 5.2%. Average hourly wage amounted to CZK 121 and increased by 3.9%.

The planning and building control authorities granted 14 632 building permits (of which 7 431 for new construction and 7 201 for renewals and enhancements). The approximate value of the constructions approved in August was CZK 31.1 billion (of which new constructions accounted for CZK 20.7 billion and renewals and enhancements for CZK 10.4 billion).

The planning and building control authorities permitted 3 633 dwellings to be constructed – an increase of 491 y-o-y. New construction should provide 2 742 dwellings (+251). The number of new dwellings obtained by renewals and enhancements should be 891 (+240), the number growing most in non-residential buildings. The approximate value per dwelling was CZK 2.4 million (new construction) or CZK 1.4 million (renewals and enhancements).
