Sales in services increased by 2.2% in 2024

“The all-year-round sales in services increased by 2.2% compared to the year 2023. None of individual sections of services reported a decrease and the highest contribution to the growth was recorded in transportation and storage with a y-o-y sales increase by 4.6%,” Tomáš Harák, Head of the Trade, Services, and Environmental Statistics Data Support Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.
Quarter-on-quarter, seasonally adjusted sales in services1) increased in real terms by 0.1%, in the Q4. All industries of services recorded a sales growth except for the CZ-NACE section of professional, scientific and technical activities and the section of information and communication.
In the year-on-year comparison, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 2.1%. The biggest increase was recorded in the section of transportation and storage.
Development in individual industries of services (CZ-NACE sections) was as follows:
- Sales in transportation and storage increased by 6.1%. A double-digit growth was reported by air transport (by 18.5%). Sales also increased in the following: warehousing and support activities for transportation (by 9.1%), land transport and transport via pipelines (by 3.8%), and postal and courier activities (by 3.5%). On the other hand, sales in water transport decreased by 0.5%.
- Sales in accommodation and food service activities decreased by 0.1%. Sales in accommodation decreased by 1.7%; in food and beverage service activities they increased by 0.5%.
- Sales in information and communication increased by 2.8%. The biggest increase of sales was in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (by 4.6%), which include, for example, computer programming activities, computer facilities management activities, and computer consultancy activities. Sales also increased in telecommunications (by 3.0%) and in publishing activities (by 2.8%). On the other hand, lower sales compared to the previous year were reported by music and motion picture activities (by 1.8%), information service activities (by 3.2%), and programming and broadcasting activities (by 6.7%).
- Sales in real estate activities stagnated, y-o-y.
- In professional, scientific and technical activities2) sales decreased by 1.0%. The most considerable sales decrease was in advertising and market research (by 7.6%). Sales also decreased in architectural and engineering activities; technical testing and analysis, namely by 3.6%. On the other hand, other professional, scientific and technical activities reported an increase of sales (by 4.0%). Higher year-on-year sales were also in activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (by 3.3%) and in legal and accounting activities (by 2.9%).
- In administrative and support service activities, sales increased by 2.7%. The highest increase of sales was recorded by office administrative, office support and other business support activities (by 10.4%). Sales were also increasing in travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (by 7.1%) and rental and leasing activities (by 6.2%). On the other hand, a decrease of sales was recorded by employment activities (by 13.7%), security and investigation activities (by 2.2%), and services to buildings and landscape activities (by 2.1%).

All data in the text of the news release are presented at constant prices. The year-on-year development is published after having been adjusted for an influence of the number of working days. Quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted.
Enterprises are classified to the economic activity according to their principal (prevailing) activity, i.e. such an activity, from which the enterprise gets the highest value added.
Data for the Q4 2024 are preliminary; final data for individual quarters of 2024 will be released in March 2025.
