Sales in information and communication increased the fastest

In the Q3 2018, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased at constant prices by 2.8%, year‑on-year (y-o-y), the same as non-adjusted sales. Seasonally adjusted sales in services increased at constant prices by 0.5%, quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q).

In the Q3 2018, seasonally adjusted sales in services1) increased at constant prices by 0.5%, q-o-q. A q-o-q growth was recorded by all sections except for professional, scientific and technical activities.   

Year-on-year, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 2.8%, the same as non-adjusted (there was the same number of working days in the Q3 2018 and Q3 2017). The most marked increase was in the section of information and communication followed by the section of transportation and storage. Development in individual industries of services (CZ-NACE sections) was as follows:

-          sales in transportation and storage increased by 4.8%. The highest sales growth was in water transport (+12.6%), which is the smallest as for the volume of sales, namely owing to operation of water transport out of the territory of the CR. The following also recorded increases of sales: air transport (+11.7%), land transport and transport via pipelines (+5.2%) and warehousing and support activities for transportation (+3.8%). On the other hand, sales dropped in postal and courier activities (−3.5%);

-          sales in accommodation and food service activities increased by 0.9%. In the food and beverage service activities the sales increase was by 2.0%, while in the accommodation sales dropped by 1.3%;

-          sales in information and communication increased by 6.5%. A double-digit sales growth was reported by programming and broadcasting activities (+14.2%) and publishing activities (+11.6%). Sales increased also in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+8.8%), information service activities (+8.7%), and telecommunications (+1.8%). A decrease in sales for a second successive quarter was recorded in the so-called motion picture activities (this time it was −4.1%);

-          sales in real estate activities decreased by 1.5%, y-o-y. The decrease was recorded by real estate activities on a fee or contract basis (−3.3%) as well as by buying and selling of own real estate and renting and operating of own or leased real estate (−1.0%), which are more important in terms of their volume;

-          sales in professional, scientific and technical activities2) decreased by 0.7%. In this section, sales increased the most in legal and accounting activities (+4.2%) and in other professional, scientific and technical activities (+2.9%), which include, for example, translation services and photographic services, business brokerage activities, specialised design activities, or activities of quantity surveyors. On the other hand, y-o-y sales decreases were reported by architectural and engineering activities (−4.7%), activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (−2.2%), and by advertising and market research (−2.2%);

-          sales in administrative and support service activities increased by 3.1%. The sales increase was the most marked in rental and leasing activities (+9.0). Higher sales were reached also in office administrative and support activities (+4.4%), in employment activities (+3.3%), services to buildings and landscape activities (+2.8%), and travel agency, tour operator reservation service and related activities (+1.1%). The only division in this section, in which sales decreased, y-o-y, are security and investigation activities (−2.0%).
