Sales for services stagnated

In Q3 2012, seasonally adjusted sales in services increased by 0.1%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. After the working day adjustment sales grew by 0.6%, without the adjustment they rose by 0.2%, both year-on-year. The only year-on-year growth was recorded in administrative and support service activities and in transportation and storage.
In Q3 2012, seasonally adjusted sales in services 1 ) increased by 0.1%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. After the working day adjustment they grew by 0.6%, year-on-year (Q3 2012 was by one working day longer than that of the previous year). Sales without the adjustment increased by 0.2%. A growth was recorded only in administrative and support service activities and in transportation and storage.
Year-on-year development of not seasonally adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE division:
- sales in transportation and storage increased by 2.6% due to a growth in sales in warehousing and support activities for transportation (+11.1%). The following divisions of transportation recorded a decline in sales for the second quarter in a row: land transport and transport via pipelines (this time -0.9%), air transport (-8.2%), and postal and courier activities (-4.7%);
- sales in accommodation and food service activities decreased by 3.0%. A decline in sales in food and beverage service activities (-7.5%) was also affected by a ban on sales and serving of strong alcoholic beverages in September. Conversely, accommodation showed a growth (+4.2%);
- in information and communication the decrease of sales, which started in the Q2 2011, continued. The decrease in sales (-0.3%) was mostly caused by a two-digit drop in sales in music and motion picture activities. Sales also fell in telecommunications (-0.8%), in publishing activities (-2.8%), and in information service activities (-3.1%). On the contrary, a growth was recorded in sales in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+2.8%), which include, for example, computer programming activities, computer facilities management activities, and computer consultancy activities, and in programming and broadcasting activities (+9.2%);
- sales in real estate activities dropped by 4.4%. The results was cause by a decline both in real estate activities on a fee or contract basis (-6.6%) and buying and selling of own real estate and renting and operating of own or leased real estate (-3.4%);
- sales in professional, scientific and technical activities 2 ) decreased by 2.2%. The deepest drop in sales was recorded in other professional, scientific and technical activities
(-11.0%), then in legal and accounting activities (-5.1%), activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (-3.0%), and advertising and market research activities (-2.8%). Sales increased for the solely, due to volume important, architectural and engineering activities (+2.3%), in other groups a decrease was noticed;
- sales in administrative and support service activities 3 ) increased by 2.2%. Growing sales were measured for employment activities (+10.3%), office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+.6.0%), travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (+1.6%), and for services to buildings and landscape activities (+0.7%). A decline in sales was recorded merely for security and investigation activities (-3.4%) and rental and leasing activities (-2.1%).
