Sales in transportation and storage increased the most

In the Q2 2018, seasonally adjusted sales in services decreased at constant prices by 0.2%, quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q). Sales adjusted for calendar effects increased at constant prices by 2.6%, year‑on-year (y-o-y); non-adjusted sales increased by 3.1%, y‑o‑y.


In the Q2 2018, seasonally adjusted sales in services1) decreased at constant prices by 0.2%, q-o-q. A q-o-q growth was recorded only by the following sections: accommodation and food service activities and by administrative and support service activities.   

Year-on-year, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 2.6%. The most marked increase was in the section of transportation and storage followed by the section of information and communication.  

Non-adjusted sales increased by 3.1%, year-on-year. Development in individual industries of services (CZ-NACE sections) was as follows:

-          sales in transportation and storage increased by 6.6%. A double-digit growth of sales was reported by water transport (+21.1%) and warehousing and support activities for transportation (+10.9%). The following also recorded increases of sales: land transport and transport via pipelines (+4.2%), air transport (+3.2%), and postal and courier activities (+2.9%);

-          sales in accommodation and food service activities increased by 1.1%. In the food and beverage service activities sales increased by 2.6%, while in the accommodation they dropped by 2.2%;

-          sales in information and communication increased by 3.7%. The highest growth of sales was reported by information service activities (+8.2%), which include, for example, data processing, web portals, and hosting. Sales increased also in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+6.4%), programming and broadcasting activities (+5.4%), publishing activities (+2.6%), and telecommunications (+0.6%). On the contrary, a decrease in sales was reported by the so-called music and motion picture activities (-8.5%);

-          sales in real estate activities decreased by 1.4%, y-o-y. A decrease of sales was recorded in buying and selling of own real estate and renting and operating of own or leased real estate (-1.7%), which are more important in terms of their volume as well as in real estate activities on a fee or contract basis (-0.1%);

-          sales in professional, scientific and technical activities2) increased by 0.8%. In this section, sales increased the most in other professional, scientific and technical activities (+4.6%), which include, for example, translation services and photographic services, but also business brokerage activities, specialised design activities or activities of quantity surveyors. Higher sales were achieved also by activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (+3.9%), and legal and accounting activities (+2.3%). On the contrary, a y-o-y drop of sales was reported by advertising and market research (-4.0%) and architectural and engineering activities (-0.4%);

-          sales in administrative and support service activities increased by 2.2%. The sales increase was the most marked in rental and leasing activities (+5.7%). Higher sales were reached also in travel agency, tour operator reservation service and related activities (+4.9%), in office administrative and support activities (+2.9%), and employment activities (+1.2%). In other economic activities of this section sales were decreasing, y-o-y; the deepest drop was in security and investigation activities (-6.1%). Lower sales were recorded also by services to buildings and landscape activities (-0.6%).
