Sales in services continued to grow, year-on-year

In the year-on-year comparison, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 3.0%. The biggest increase was recorded in transportation and storage.
“The year-on-year growth of sales in services accelerated again; in the third quarter, sales increased by 3%. The growth was the most contributed to by transportation and storage; an increase of sales was reported by all individual CZ-NACE sections - industries of services, except for real estate activities and accommodation and food service activities,” Tomáš Harák, Head of the Trade, Services, and Environmental Statistics Data Support Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.
Development in individual industries of services (CZ-NACE sections) was as follows:
- in transportation and storage, sales increased by 7.1%. Sales in air transport increased the most (by 21.4%). A sales increase was also recorded in warehousing and support activities for transportation (by 8.5%), postal and courier activities (by 5.5%), and land transport and transport via pipelines (by 4.3%), which the most important in terms of the volume. On the other hand, in water transport sales decreased by 10.0%;
- in accommodation and food service activities, sales decreased by 1.5%. In food and beverage service activities, sales decreased by 1.8% and in accommodation by 0.7%;
- in information and communication, sales increased by 4.1%. The highest increase of sales was in programming and broadcasting activities (by 11.3%) and in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (by 6.2%), which include, for example, computer programming activities, computer facilities management activities, and computer consultancy activities. An increase of sales was also recorded by information service activities (by 5.0%), telecommunications (by 3.5%), and publishing activities (by 1.7%). On the other hand, a decrease in sales was reported by music and motion picture activities (by 17.0%);
- in real estate activities, sales decreased by 1.0%, y-o-y;
- in professional, scientific and technical activities,2) sales increased by 0.7%. The highest sales increase (by 4.3%) was recorded in activities of head offices; management consultancy activities as well as in other professional, scientific and technical activities. Sales also increased in architectural and engineering activities; technical testing and analysis, namely by 0.1%. On the other hand, a decrease of sales was reported by advertising and market research (by 3.7%) and also by legal and accounting activities (by 0.3%);
- in administrative and support service activities, sales increased by 2.9%. The most noticeable increases of sales were in rental and leasing activities and in travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (by 5.6%). Year-on-year, higher sales were achieved by the following: office administrative, office support and other business support activities (by 4.3%) and also services to buildings and landscape activities (by 2.9%). On the other hand, a decrease of sales was recorded by employment activities (by 11.3%) and security and investigation activities (by 0.3%).

2) For the purposes of the news release, section M – Professional, scientific and technical activities does not include CZ-NACE 72 – Scientific research and development and CZ-NACE 75 – Veterinary activities.

All data in the text of the news release are presented at constant prices. The year-on-year development is published after having been adjusted for an influence of the number of working days. Quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted.
Enterprises are classified to the economic activity according to their principal (prevailing) activity, which is such an activity, from which the enterprise gets the highest value added.
Data for the Q3 2024 are preliminary; final data for individual quarters of 2024 will be released in March 2025.
