Sales in services increased by 3.0%, year-on-year

“Sales in services increased by 3%, year-on-year, in the first quarter of 2025. All CZ-NACE sections of services contributed to the growth except for accommodation and food service activities, in which there was a decrease by 1.1%,” Tomáš Harák, Head of the Trade, Services, and Environmental Statistics Data Support Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.
Quarter-on-quarter, seasonally adjusted sales in services1) increased in real terms by 1.7%, in the Q1. All industries of services recorded a sales growth except for the CZ-NACE section of accommodation and food service activities, in which sales decreased by 0.6%.
In the year-on-year comparison, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 3.0%. The mose marked increase was recorded in the section of professional, scientific and technical activities.
Development in individual industries of services (CZ-NACE sections) was as follows:
- Sales in transportation and storage increased by 2.6%. The most marked increase in sales was in water transport (by 5.6%). Higher sales were also reported by warehousing and support activities for transportation (by 4.7%), postal and courier activities (by 2.4%), and land transport and transport via pipelines (by 1.4%). Air transport also recorded a sales increase (by 0.2%).
- Sales in accommodation and food service activities decreased by 1.1%. Sales in accommodation decreased by 3.0%; in food and beverage service activities they decreased by 0.7%.
- Sales in information and communication increased by 4.3%. The growth was mainly achieved thanks to the development in telecommunications (an increase by 11.0%). Sales also increased in publishing activities (by 7.7%) and information service activities (by 6.1%), which include, for example, data processing, hosting and related activities; web portals. Higher sales were also reported by computer programming, consultancy and related activities (by 1.6%) and by music and motion picture activities (by 0.5%). The only decreasing industry in this section was programming and broadcasting activities (by 13.4%).
- Sales in real estate activities increased by 1.9%, y-o-y.
- In professional, scientific and technical activities2) sales increased by 4.7%. The highest contribution to the growth of the entire section was thanks to activities of head offices; management consultancy activities, in which sales increased by 17.1%. An increase of sales by 4.9% was recorded by other professional, scientific and technical activities. Legal and accounting activities increased by 4.7% and higher sales were also in architectural and engineering activities; technical testing and analysis (by 1.5%) and in advertising and market research (by 0.6%).
- In administrative and support service activities, sales increased by 1.1%. The highest increase of sales was recorded by office administrative, office support and other business support activities, namely by 6.6%. Sales also increased in rental and leasing activities (by 4.9%), travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (by 2.5%), and services to buildings and landscape activities (by 1.5%). On the other hand, a decrease of sales was recorded by employment activities (by 10.2%) and also by security and investigation activities (by 5.3%).

All data in the text of the news release are presented at constant prices. The year-on-year development is published after having been adjusted for an influence of the number of working days. Quarter-on-quarter rates have also been seasonally adjusted.
Enterprises are classified to the economic activity according to their principal (prevailing) activity, i.e. such an activity, from which the enterprise gets the highest value added.
Data for the Q1 2025 are preliminary; final data for individual quarters of 2025 will be released in March 2026.
