Higher number of working days had an influence on the amount of sales

In the Q2 2016, seasonally adjusted sales in services decreased at constant prices by 1.1%, quarter-on-quarter. Working days adjusted sales decreased by 1.1%, year-on-year, while non-adjusted sales increased by 0.7%. All economic activities of services reported growth except for professional, scientific and technical activities.  

In the Q2 2016, seasonally adjusted sales in services1) decreased at constant prices by 1.1%, quarter-on-quarter. Year-on-year, working days adjusted sales decreased by 1.1%, while non-adjusted sales increased by 0.7% (in the Q2 2016 there was 3 working days more than in the Q2 2015). All economic activities of services recorded growth except for professional, scientific and technical activities.  

Year-on-year development of seasonally non-adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE division:

-          sales in transportation and storage increased by 2.5%. The growth of sales was the most contributed to by warehousing and support activities for transportation, in which sales increased (+8.9%). Also water transport recorded growth of sales (+4.8%). Land transport and transport via pipelines (the most important as for the volume) was stagnating in the Q2 2016, y-o-y. On the contrary, lower sales compared to the previous year were in air transport (-7.9%) and postal and courier activities (-2.5%).

-          sales in accommodation and food service activities increased by 1.8%. After 23 quarters of continual growth, sales in accommodation decreased for the first time (-1.4%), while in food and beverage service activities they increased (+3.3%);

-          sales in information and communication increased by 2.8%. The highest y-o-y growth was achieved by motion picture and music activities (+16.8%). Already for the tenth successive quarter, an increase was recorded by information service activities (this time by 8.7%), which include, for example, data processing, web portals, and hosting. Sales increased also in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+2.5%), which include, for example, computer programming activities, computer consultancy activities, and computer facilities management activities. Sales increased also in publishing activities (+2.2%), telecommunications (+1.2%), and programming and broadcasting activities (+1.0%);

-          sales in real estate activities increased by 1.3%. The growth of sales was caused mainly by an increase in buying and selling of own real estate and renting and operating of own or leased real estate (+1.4%). Sales in real estate activities on a fee or contract basis increased by 0.8%;

-          sales in professional, scientific and technical activities2) decreased by 6.0%. The biggest influence on the overall y-o-y drop of sales belonged to the development in architectural and engineering activities (drop by 11.6%). A y-o-y sales drop was recorded also by other professional, scientific and technical activities (-5.5%), activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (-5.1%), as well as by advertising and market research (-3.8%). The only economic activity, which reported growth were legal and accounting activities (+2.0%);  

-          sales in administrative and support service activities3) increased by 3.1%. Except for travel agency, tour operator reservation service and related activities (which reported a decrease by 11.1%) all divisions were growing. The most marked sales increase was recorded in office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+9.4%), which have been increasing since the beginning of the previous year. Sales were increasing in employment activities (+6.8%) and also in services to buildings and landscape activities (+5.1%), rental and leasing activities (+3.7%), as well as in security and investigation activities (+1.8%).
