Sales for services fell by 0.9% in 2013

In Q4 2013, seasonally adjusted sales in services increased by 0.7%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. After the working day adjustment sales grew by 0.7%, non-adjusted sales increased by 0.2%, both year-on-year. The overall development was by most affected by a growth of sales in transportation and storage.
Sales in services for the whole 2013 decreased by 0.9%, year-on-year, at constant prices.
In Q4 2013, seasonally adjusted sales in services 1 ) increased by 0.7%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. After the working day adjustment they grew by 0.7%, year-on-year (Q4 2013 was by one working day shorter than that of the previous year); non-adjusted sales increased by 0.2%. A growth was recorded only in transportation and storage and in administrative and support service activities.
Year-on-year development of not seasonally adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE divisi on:
- sales in transportation and storage increased by 8.7%, most in warehousing and support activities for transportation (+19.1%). A growth was also recorded in land transport and transport via pipelines (+5.4%) and in water transport (+2.1%). On the contrary, a decline in sales continued in air transport and postal and courier activities (-4.8% and -11.9%, respectively);
- sales in accommodation and food service activities decreased by 0.1%. A growth of sales in accommodation continued (+2.0%). Following an increase in Q3 2013, sales in food and beverage service activities dropped again (-1.1%);
- sales in information and communication decreased by 0.7%. Music and motion picture activities and telecommunications were the only two divisions which recorded a growth (+10.7% and +3.9%, respectively). Conversely, a decrease in sales was recorded in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (-1.5%) and in publishing activities (-6.9%). Lower sales were also achieved in information service activities (-1.9%), which include press agencies, web portals, and webhosting, for instance. Programming and broadcasting saw a two-digit drop for already the second quarter (this time -21.4%);
- sales in real estate activities dropped by 6.5%. The sales decreased in buying and selling of own real estate and in renting and operating of own or leased real estate (-5.8%) and in real estate activities on a fee or contract basis (-8.5%);
- sales in professional, scientific and technical activities 2 ) decreased by 7.2%. A drop in sales was recorded in all divisions, the deepest one in advertising and market research activities (-14.7%) and other professional, scientific and technical activities (-11.0%). Sales in legal and accounting activities decreased (-7.5%), activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (-4.4%), and in architectural and engineering activities (-7.2%);
- sales in administrative and support service activities 3 ) increased by 3.0%. Growing sales were contributed mostly by employment activities (+12.3%), rental and leasing activities (+6.6%). An increase in sales was also recorded in office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+3.0%) and security and investigation activities (+2.3%), Sales dropped only in travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (-3.7%) and for services to buildings and landscape activities (-2.3%).
Development in 2013
In 2013 sales in services 1) decreased by 0.9%, year-on-year, at constant prices, a growth was recorded only in transportation and storage, accommodation and food service activities and in administrative and support service activities.
Year-on-year development of not seasonally adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE division:
- the growth of sales in transportation and storage by 4.2%, was contributed by all divisions except for postal and courier activities which were declining for already the second year (this time -8.5%). The growth in sales was affected mainly by the development in warehousing and support activities for transportation (+7.9%) and in land transport and transport via pipelines (+3.2%), which is most important in terms of volume transported. A growth was also recorded in air transport (+2.5%) and in water transport (+1.9%);
- sales in the whole section of accommodation and food service activities increased by 0.1%. A growth of sales was contributed by the trend in accommodation, in which sales were growing, except for January and April, and in total grew by 2.1%. Conversely, sales in food and beverage service activities dropped (-0.8%) although they saw a growth in Q3 2014 (for the first time since 2008);
- sales in information and communication decreased by 1.1%. Developments in respective divisions of activities were varied. The volume most important Computer programming, consultancy and related activities, which include computer facilities management activities, computer programming activities, and computer consultancy activities, recorded a drop in sales (-1.9%) following a three-year-long growth. Sales in information service activities and publishing activities were declining for already the third year (this time -3.7% and -6.4%, respectively). Sales for programming and broadcasting activities decreased by 8.0%. On the contrary, telecommunications showed a growth for the first time since 2010 and their sales in 2013 rose by 2.3%. Music and motion picture activities were growing mostly due to the developments in Q1 and Q4 2013;
- sales in real estate activities dropped by 4.5%. The sales decreased in buying and selling of own real estate and in renting and operating of own or leased real estate (3.4%), which more significant in terms of volume; sales in real estate activities on a fee or contract basis also dropped (-7.6%);
- sales in professional, scientific and technical activities 2) decreased by 7.4%. Activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (+2.3%) were the only to record a growth, all other divisions declined. Sales for architectural and engineering activities (-8.7%), advertising and market research activities (-12.8%), and for other professional, scientific and technical activities (-9.9%) were declining in all quarters of the year;
- sales in administrative and support service activities 3) increased by 0.6%. Growing sales were in employment activities (+6.0%), security and investigation activities (+2.4%), office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+1.0%), and rental and leasing activities (+0.9%). A drop of sales was recorded in travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (-3.1%) and for services to buildings and landscape activities (-1.1%).
