Sales for accommodation were growing unlike food and beverage service activities

In Q2 2011, seasonally adjusted sales in services decreased by 1.0%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. The y-o-y non-adjusted as well as working day adjusted sales dropped by 0.7%. The biggest sales fall was recorded in professional, scientific and technical activities.

In Q2 2011, seasonally adjusted sales in services 1) decreased by 1.0%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. The y-o-y non-adjusted as well as working day adjusted sales dropped by 0.7% (there was the same number of working days in Q2 2010 and Q2 2011). The biggest sales fall was recorded in professional, scientific and technical activities.

Year-on-year development of not seasonally adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE division:
  • sales in transportation and storage continued to grow (the growth started in Q1 2010). The overall growth of sales in transportation and storage by 0.8% was contributed to mainly by land transport and transport via pipelines (sales growth by 2.6%) and postal and courier activities (sales growth by 3.8%). Lower sales were reported by warehousing and support activities for transport (-1.7%), air transport (-0.6%), and water transport (-29.4%).
  • sales in accommodation and food service activities increased, this time by 2.5%, especially thanks to the development in accommodation. The sales increased there by 8.9%, which is the highest growth since Q1 2006. On the contrary, in food and beverage services activities sales dropped, namely by 1.1%;
  • sales in information and communication decreased by 1.7%. The deepest fall of sales was in publishing activities (-9.5%). Lower sales were recorded also in music and motion picture activities (-7.9%), information service activities (-7.3%), programming and broadcasting activities (-6.0%), and telecommunications (-4.7%). Sales increased only in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+8.6%), which include e.g. computer programming activities, computer facilities management activities, data recovery after system failure, and computer consultancy activities.
  • sales in real estate activities dropped by 3.9%, mainly due to real estate activities on a fee or contract basis (-7.5%). Sales in buying and selling of own real estate, and renting and operating of own or leased real estate (the group is more significant as for the volume) decreased by 2.1%;
  • sales in professional, scientific and technical activities2) dropped by 5.7%, which was contributed to by all groups. A two-digit fall was recorded by activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (-15.1%) and advertising and market research (-10.6%). In the division of other professional, scientific and technical activities, which includes especially photographic, interpreting and design services, sales decreased by 5.2%. In the division, which is the most important as for its volume – architectural and engineering activities – sales decreased by 1.3%;
  • sales in administrative and support service activities3) increased by 4.7%. The biggest influence on the development came from continuing growth of sales of employment activities (+24.4%) and office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+8.3%). Also sales from rental and leasing activities got above the level of the last year (+0.9%) as well as security and investigation activities (+2.3%) and services to building and landscape activities (+1.0%). A decrease was recorded only by travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (-1.2%).

    1) For the purpose of News Releases, services include the following sections of the Classification of Economic Activities (CZ-NACE): Transportation and storage (H), Accommodation and food service activities (I), Information and communication (J), Real estate activities (L), Professional, scientific and technical activities – without Scientific research and development and Veterinary activities (M without 72 and 75), Administrative and support service activities without Landscape service activities (N without 81.3).
    2) For the purpose of News Releases section M – Professional, scientific and technical activities does not include CZ-NACE 72 – Scientific research and development and CZ-NACE 75 – Veterinary activities.
    3) For the purpose of News Releases section N – Administrative and support service activities does not include CZ-NACE 81.3 – Landscape service activities.
