Most services recorded drop of sales

In Q3 2011, seasonally adjusted sales in services decreased by 1.6%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. Both, the y-o-y non-adjusted as well as working day adjusted sales dropped by 4.1%. The sales growth was recorded only in administrative and support service activities.

In Q3 2011, seasonally adjusted sales in services 1) decreased by 1.6%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. Both, the y-o-y non-adjusted as well as working day adjusted sales dropped by 4.1% (there was the same number of working days in Q3 2010 and Q3 2011). The sales growth was recorded only in administrative and support service activities.
Year-on-year development of not seasonally adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE division:
- - sales in transportation and storage decreased (for the first time since Q1 2010) by 1.3%. The overall drop of sales in transportation and storage was influenced the most by land transport and transport via pipelines, which is the most significant due to its volume (sales drop by 1.8%). Also water transport recorded drop of sales (-31.0%). Due to lower outputs of those transportation branches, the y-o-y drop of sales was reflected also in warehousing and support activities for transportation (-2.1%). Sales increased only in air transport (+5.6%) and postal and courier activities (+1.1%);
- sales in accommodation and food service activities decreased by 1.2%, especially due to the development of sales in food and beverage service activities, where a drop by 4.5% was recorded. On the contrary, in accommodation the sales growth - that started in the second half of 2010 - continued (this time by 4.5%).
- sales in information and communication decreased by 3.4%. The deepest fall of sales was in publishing activities (-7.7%). Sales for telecommunications have been decreasing since Q2 2009, this time by 7.2%. Lower sales than last year were recorded also in music and motion picture activities (-6.6%) and information service activities (-4.5%). An overall drop of sales was slowed down by growth of sales for programming and broadcasting activities (+2.6%) and computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+4.0%), which include e.g. computer programming activities and computer facilities management;
- sales in real estate activities dropped by 5.4%. There was continuing decrease of real estate activities on a fee or contract basis (-8.1%) and buying and selling of own real estate, and renting and operating of own or leased real estate (-3.9%);
- sales in professional, scientific and technical activities 2) dropped by 15.2% mainly thanks to the division, which is the most important as for its volume – architectural and engineering activities (drop by 22.7%). A two-digit fall was recorded also by other professional, scientific and technical activities (-17.9%), activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (-17.2%), and also a long-term drop of sales in advertising and market research continued (this time -10.8%). On the contrary, sales increased in legal and accounting activities by 2.5%;
- sales in administrative and support service activities 3) increased (+3.9%). Sales increased in all divisions with the exception of security and investigation activities (drop by 5.0%). The biggest growth was reported by employment activities (+19.7%), sales of which have been growing since the beginning of 2010. Travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities increased their sales by 4.3% and office administrative, office support and other business support activities by 3.1%. Services to buildings and landscape activities increased their sales by 2.0% and sales of rental and leasing activities increased by 0.7%.

1) For the purpose of News Releases, services include the following sections of the Classification of Economic Activities (CZ-NACE): Transportation and storage (H), Accommodation and food service activities (I), Information and communication (J), Real estate activities (L), Professional, scientific and technical activities – without Scientific research and development and Veterinary activities (M without 72 and 75), Administrative and support service activities without Landscape service activities (N without 81.3).
2) For the purpose of News Releases section M – Professional, scientific and technical activities does not include CZ-NACE 72 – Scientific research and development and CZ-NACE 75 – Veterinary activities.
3) For the purpose of News Releases section N – Administrative and support service activities does not include CZ-NACE 81.3 – Landscape service activities.
