The highest sales growth again in information and communication

In the Q2 2019, sales in services adjusted for calendar effects increased at constant prices by 1.4%, year‑on-year (y-o-y); non-adjusted sales increased by 0.9%, y-o-y. Seasonally adjusted sales stagnated, quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q).

In the Q2 2019, seasonally adjusted sales in services1) stagnated, q-o-q.

Year-on-year, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 1.4%. The highest growth was in the section of information and communication.

Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales increased by 0.9%. Development in individual industries of services (CZ-NACE sections) was as follows:

  • sales in transportation and storage decreased by 1.4%, which was contributed to by all industries except for postal and courier activities (growth by 10.4%). The deepest sales drop was reported by warehousing and support activities for transportation (−3.9%). Sales decreased also in water transport (−1.5%), land transport and transport via pipelines (−0.7%), and air transport (−0.2%);
  • sales in accommodation and food service activities increased by 1.9%. In the accommodation sales increased by 1.6% and in the food and beverage service activities the sales increased by 2.1%;
  • sales in information and communication increased by 7.1%. It was influenced by an increase of sales in information service activities (+28.8%), which include, for example, data processing, hosting and related activities; web portals. A double-digit growth of sales was reported also by programming and broadcasting activities (+11.6%) and publishing activities (+10.6%). Higher sales were also reported by computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+4.4%), telecommunications (+4.1%), and by the so-called music and motion picture activities (+0.4%);
  • sales in real estate activities decreased by 1.3%, y-o-y. Sales in buying and selling of own real estate and renting and operating of own or leased real estate stagnated. Sales in real estate activities on a fee or contract basis decreased (−5.8%);
  • sales in professional, scientific and technical activities2) increased by 0.7%. The following contributed the most to the growth: activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (+4.0%) and legal and accounting activities (+3.1%). Growing sales were reported also by advertising and market research (+1.7%). Industries of this section, in which sales were decreasing are as follows: architectural and engineering activities (−2.0%) and other professional, scientific and technical activities (−1.3%), which include, for example, translation services and photographic services, or activities of quantity surveyors;
  • sales in administrative and support service activities decreased by 2.0%, y-o-y. The most marked drop of sales was in travel agency, tour operator reservation service and related activities (−7.0%) and employment activities (−5.6%). Lower sales were reported also by security and investigation activities (−1.0%). On the contrary, sales growth was in office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+3.3%), services to buildings and landscape activities (+0.8%), and rental and leasing activities (+0.7%).
