Year-on-year decrease of sales was recorded mainly by tourism related industries

In the Q3 2020, sales adjusted for calendar effects decreased in real terms (at constant prices) by 12.0%, year‑on-year (y-o-y); non-adjusted sales dropped by 12.4%. Seasonally adjusted sales in services increased in real terms (at constant prices) by 8.3%, quarter-on-quarter (q-o-q).
 

Development in the third quarter of 2020

In the Q3 2020, seasonally adjusted sales in services1) increased in real terms (at constant prices) by 8.3%, q-o-q. A q-o-q increase was recorded by all industries of services (CZ-NACE sections).

Year-on-year, sales adjusted for calendar effects decreased by 12.0%. The y-o-y decrease was reported by all industries of services; the most marked decrease was in tourism related industries.

Year-on-year, non-adjusted sales decreased by 12.4%. Development in individual industries of services (CZ-NACE sections) was as follows:

  • sales in transportation and storage decreased by 14.8%. The deepest decrease of sales occurred in air transport (by 73.5%) and water transport (by 39.7%). Lower sales were recorded also in warehousing and support activities for transportation (by 11.9%) and in  land transport and transport via pipelines (by 10.9%), which is the most important as for the volume. The total development was mitigated by growth of sales in postal and courier activities (by 9.1%);
  • in accommodation and food service activities a double-digit decrease of sales continued, although compared to the previous quarter it was more moderate (this time by 24.3%). A more marked sales decrease was reported in the accommodation (by 45.5%) than in the food and beverage service activities (drop by 14.8%);
  • sales in information and communication decreased by 0.9%, while individual industries had different development. The deepest sales decrease was in the so-called music and motion picture activities (by 33.2%). Lower sales were recorded in computer programming, consultancy and related activities (by 5.1%) and in publishing activities (by 1.9%). Conversely, sales increased in programming and broadcasting activities (by 4.0%), in telecommunications (by 5.4%), and in information service activities (by 7.2%), which include e.g. data processing, hosting and related activities; web portals;
  • sales in real estate activities decreased by 0.6%, y-o-y. A sales decrease was reported by real estate activities on a fee or contract basis (by 4.4%). Buying and selling of own real estate and renting and operating of own or leased real estate recorded a sales increase by 0.4%;
  • sales in professional, scientific and technical activities2) decreased by 6.1%. The highest decrease of sales was reported by architectural and engineering activities, namely by 13.8%. Decreasing sales were also in activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (by 9.6%). Lower sales were recorded also by other professional, scientific and technical activities (by 4.5%), which include, for example, business brokerage activities, translation services and photographic services, or activities of quantity surveyors. Advertising and market research (drop of sales by 1.9%) was another decreasing industry. Increasing sales were in legal and accounting activities (by 1.5%);
  • sales in administrative and support service activities decreased by 34.2%, y-o-y. The most significant decrease of sales was in travel agency, tour operator reservation service and related activities (by 82.4%). A decrease was also recorded by the following economic activities: employment activities (by 20.2%), office administrative and support activities (by 11.3%), services to buildings and landscape activities (by 9.6%), and rental and leasing activities (by 9.4%). Security and investigation activities were the least decreasing economic activity in this section (drop by 5.3%).
