Other divisions of services followed the growth of transport

In Q3 2010, seasonally adjusted, calendar and working day adjusted sales in services decreased by 0.2%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices. They increased, on the contrary, after working days adjustment (in 2010 there was 1 working day less than in 2009) by 0.7%, year-on-year, without adjustment by 0.2%. The biggest sales growth was again in transportation and storage, slight growth was in information and communication and in administrative and support service activities.

In Q3 2010, sales in services 1) with seasonal, calendar and working day adjustment decreased by 0.2%, quarter-on-quarter, at constant prices and increased, on the contrary, by 0.7%, y-o-y, after working days adjustment (in 2010 there was 1 working day less than in 2009); not adjusted sales increased only by 0.2%. The biggest sales growth was again in transportation and storage, slight growth was in information and communication and in administrative and support service activities.

Year-on-year development of not seasonally adjusted sales in services broken down by CZ-NACE division:
  • sales in transportation and storage increased by 2.8% and thus confirmed the change in the trend, which started already in the Q1 2010. The increase was contributed to by land transport and transport via pipelines together with warehousing and support activities for transportation (both 1.9 percentage point). Only in air transport sales decreased (-14.2%);
  • sales in accommodation and food service activities have been dropping for eleven quarters already, this time by 2.0%. The drop was influenced mainly by food and beverage service activities. On the contrary, in accommodation sales increased for the first time in the Q3 2010 (+2.3%), which was contributed to, among others, by the number of overnight stays in hotels of higher categories;
  • sales in information and communication increased only by 0.4% (after five quarters of y-o-y decrease), because in telecommunications, which are the most significant as for the volume, they decreased by 4.4%. The fastest growth of sales was in programming and broadcasting activities (+10.4%), in which product placement (i.e. placement of promotion information directly into individual programmes for a fee) might have some partial influence. The biggest contribution to the growth came from computer programming, consultancy and related activities (+1.5 p.p. at the sales growth by +5.2%). Information services activities (which include, for example, news agencies and web portals) recorded sales increase by 5.0% and publishing activities by 2.5%;
  • sales in real estate activities dropped again (-5.7%). In buying and selling of own real estate and renting and operating of own or leased real estate, which is the more significant group in volume terms, the sales dropped by 3.6%, in real estate activities on a fee or contract basis sales dropped by 9.5%;
  • sales in professional, scientific and technical activities2) dropped by 1.3%. The deepest fall of sales was in other professional, scientific and technical activities (which includes mainly photographic, interpreting and design services) and activities of head offices; management consultancy activities (-10.4%), the drop was reported also in legal and accounting activities (-5.6%). Decrease of advertising and market research further slowed down - in the Q3 sales of this division decreased by 0.7%. On the contrary, the most significant group as for its volume - architectural and engineering activities - recorded growth by 5.5%;
  • sales in administrative and support service activities3) increased for the first time since Q4 2008 (+0.8%). The growth was reported in employment activities (+11.9%), office administrative, office support and other business support activities (+4.9%), rental and leasing activities (+2.8%) and security and investigation activities (+0.5%). Slight decrease (-0.2%) was in cleaning services; a bigger influence on the overall development came from the ongoing decrease of sales in travel agency, tour operator and other reservation service and related activities (-4.8%, contribution -1.6 p.p.).

1) For the purpose of News Releases, services include the following CZ-NACE sections – Transportation and storage (H), Accommodation and food service activities (I), Information and communication (J), Real estate activities (L), Professional, scientific and technical activities – without Scientific research and development and Veterinary activities (M without 72 and 75), Administrative and support service activities without Landscape service activities (N without 81.3).
2) For the purpose of News Releases section M – Professional, scientific and technical activities does not include CZ-NACE 72 – Scientific research and development and CZ-NACE 75 – Veterinary activities.
3) For the purpose of News Releases section N – Administrative and support service activities does not include CZ-NACE 81.3 – Landscape service activities.
