Sale via Internet contributed the most to y-o-y growth of sales in retail trade

Sales in retail trade, except of motor vehicles1) decreased in real terms by 0.1%, month‑on‑month, in June. Sales from sale of non-food goods decreased by 0.3% and sales from sale of food by 0.1%; on the other hand, sales from sale of automotive fuel increased by 0.3%.
Year-on-year, sales in retail trade increased in real terms by 3.6% in June. Sales from sale of non-food goods increased by 5.4%, sales from sale of food by 2.1%, and sales from sale of automotive fuel by 0.3%.
“Retail sales adjusted for price effects continued to increase, year-on-year, in June. Sales from sale of non-food goods, food, as well as automotive fuel increased. Retail sale via Internet contributed the most to the increase in sales in retail trade,“ Jana Gotvaldová, Head of the Trade, Transport, and Services Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), says.
Retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet,2) in which the sales increased by 12.6%, year-on-year, contributed the most to the growth of retail trade. Sales in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating increased by 2.2% and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods by 7.4%. On the other hand, sales decreased in retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores by 1.5% and in retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores by 1.1%.
Sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles3) decreased by 0.6%, m-o-m, in real terms. In the year‑on‑year comparison, sales increased by 2.5%; sales for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) increased by 3.0% and sales for repair of motor vehicles increased by 0.8%.

Enterprises are classified to the economic activity according to their principal (prevailing) activity, i.e. such an activity, from which the enterprise gets the highest value added.
Data for May 2026 have been revised in accordance with the CZSO’s Data revision policy. Data for June 2026 are preliminary; final data for all months of 2026 will be published in March 2027.
