Retail sales increased, year-on-year

In March 2015, sales in retail trade after seasonal adjustment decreased by 0.7% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 4.7%, year-on-year; non-adjusted by 5.9%.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (CZ‑NACE 47) decreased by 0.7% at constant prices, month-on-month. Year-on-year, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 4.7%, year-on-year; non-adjusted increased by 5.9% (March 2015 had 1 working day more than March 2014). Non-adjusted sales for sale of automotive fuel increased by 8.2%, y-o-y, for non-food goods by 6.4%, and for food by 4.5%.

Sales growth was recorded by all main assortment groups of goods except for retail sale of clothing and footwear, where a decrease from the previous months continued (-3.5%). A sales increase was reported by retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (+27.7%), retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (+20.6%), dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores (+7.9%), retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores (+3.0%), and retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores (+1.9%). Sales increased also in both retail sale in non‑specialised stores and retail sale of food, beverages and tobacco in specialised stores (+4.6% and 4.3%, respectively).

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 97.6%. It was influenced mainly by lower prices in retail sale of automotive fuel and information and communication equipment. On the contrary, prices increased in retail sale of clothing and footwear, cultural and recreation goods, and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods.

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 0.7% at constant prices, m-o-m. Year-on-year, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 11.1%. Non-adjusted sales increased by 14.6%, y-o-y, for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) by 14.7% and for repairs by 14.6%.

For the entire Q1 2015, sales in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (CZ‑NACE 47) increased by 6.0%, at constant prices, y-o-y (at the same number of working days in the Q1 2015 and Q1 2014); for automotive fuel it was by 8.3%, for non-food goods by 6.8%, and for food by 4.2%. Sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 11.1%, both for repair as well as for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts).
