Retail Trade - June 2015

Sales in retail trade continued to increase

In June 2015, sales in retail trade after seasonal adjustment increased by 0.2% at constant prices, month-on-month. Working days adjusted sales increased by 5.7%, year-on-year, non-adjusted by 6.9%. All main assortment types of stores recorded growth.

Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (CZ‑NACE 47) increased by 0.2% at constant prices, month-on-month. Sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 5.7%, year-on-year; non-adjusted increased by 6.9% (there was 1 working day more in June 2015 than in June 2014). Non-adjusted sales for sale of non-food goods increased by 10.0%, for automotive fuel by 5.7%, and for food by 3.5%, y-o-y.

The highest sales growth was recorded by retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (+26.9%). Retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores increased by 16.8%, retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores increased by 9.2%, retail sale of other household equipment in specialised stores by 7.7%, dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods, cosmetic and toilet articles in specialised stores by 7.6%, and retail sale of clothing and footwear by 3.4%. Retail sale of food, beverages, and tobacco in specialised stores increased by 4.8% and retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating by 3.4%.

The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 98.5%. It was influenced mainly by lower prices of automotive fuel and information and communication equipment. On the contrary, prices increased in stores with clothing and footwear, cultural and recreation goods, and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods.

Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 2.3% at constant prices, m-o-m. Year-on-year, sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 15.9%. Non-adjusted sales increased by 19.6%, y-o-y; sales for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) increased by 20.1% and for repairs by 17.6%.

For the entire Q2 2015, sales in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (CZ‑NACE 47) increased by 6.1% at constant prices, y-o-y (at the same number of working days in the Q2 2015 and 2014). For non-food goods it was by 8.1%, for automotive fuel by 7.2%, and for food by 3.2%. Sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased by 13.7% at constant prices, y-o-y; for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) by 15.1% and for repairs by 8.5%.
