Higher interest in purchase of cultural and recreation goods

In January 2016, sales in retail trade after seasonal adjustment increased at constant prices by 1.2%, month-on-month (m-o-m). Working days adjusted sales increased by 5.8%, year‑on-year (y-o-y), non-adjusted by 4.6%.
Seasonally adjusted sales in retail trade except of motor vehicles and motorcycles (CZ‑NACE 47) increased at constant prices by 1.2%, month-on-month. Sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 5.8%, year-on-year; non-adjusted sales increased by 4.6% (there was one working day less in January 2016 than in January 2015). Non-adjusted sales for sale of automotive fuel increased by 6.1%, year-on-year, for non-food goods they increased by 5.3%, y-o-y, and for food by 3.2%.
The highest growth was recorded by retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (by 15.4%). Retail sale of cultural and recreation goods in specialised stores increased by 14.9%, which was the most since October 2008. Sales increased also for clothing and footwear (by 7.3%), other household equipment in specialised stores (by 3.2%), and for information and communication equipment (by 0.9%). Sales of food retailers increased by 3.5% in non-specialised stores and by 0.3% in specialised stores. On the contrary, consumers showed lower interest in purchases of dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods (by 3.6%).
The price deflator (CZ-NACE 47) related to the corresponding period of the previous year (VAT excluded) was 97.6%. It was influenced mainly by lower prices of automotive fuel, food, and information and communication equipment. On the contrary, prices increased in stores with cultural and recreation goods, clothing and footwear, and dispensing chemist, medical and orthopaedic goods.
Seasonally adjusted sales for sale and repair of motor vehicles (CZ-NACE 45) increased at constant prices by 3.0%, m-o-m. Sales adjusted for calendar effects increased by 10.7%, y-o-y. Non-adjusted sales increased by 7.3%, y-o-y, sales for sale of motor vehicles (including spare parts) increased by 8.4% and for repair of motor vehicles by 2.4%.
