Month-on-month Export and Import Prices of Electricity Significantly Increased

In January 2026, month-on-month export prices increased by 0.6%, in year-on-year comparison decreased by 3.9%. Import prices increased month-on-month by 0.4%, year-on-year decreased by 5.6%. The terms of trade reached month-on-month the value of 100.2%, year-on-year 101.8%.

Export prices

In month-on-month comparison, export prices increased by 0.6% (after exchange rate adjustment by 0.5%). The prices increased significantly in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘products of agriculture, hunting and related services’ and in ‘waste collection, treatment and disposal services’, by 16.4%, 4.2% and 3.5%, respectively. Significantly, prices decreased in ‘fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment’ and in ‘other manufactured goods’, by 2.1% and 2.0%, respectively.

In year-on-year comparison, export prices decreased by 3.9% (after exchange rate adjustment stayed the same). The prices decreased significantly in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, ‘chemicals and chemical products’ and in ‘paper and paper products’, by 20.3%,10.3% and 8.2%, respectively. The biggest increase was recorded in ‘products of forestry, logging and related services’ and in ‘wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture’, by 14.8% and 7.0%, respectively.
 

Import prices

In month-on-month comparison, import prices increased by 0.4% (after exchange rate adjustment by 0.4%). Significantly, prices increased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’ and in ‘basic metals’, by 23.0%, 5.3% and 2.9%, respectively. The biggest decrease was recorded in ‘textiles’ and in ‘leather and related products’, by 3.1% and 2.6%, respectively.

In year-on-year comparison, import prices decreased by 5.6% (after exchange rate adjustment by 1.5%). The prices decreased significantly in ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’, ’coke and refined petroleum products’ and in ‘textiles’, by 26.9%, 23.4% and 10.2%, respectively. The prices increased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ and in ‘furniture’, by 10.5% and 2.1%, respectively.

“In January, month-in-month export and import prices slightly decreased by 0.6% and 0.4%, respectively. The prices of electricity had a significant influence. They increased in export by 16.4% and in import by 23.0%. In year-on-year comparison, export and import prices were influenced by appreciation of the koruna exchange rate against the euro and the dollar, export and import prices decreased by 3.9% and 5.6%, respectively,Vladimír Klimeš, Head of the Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office, noted.
 

The terms of trade

In month-on-month comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 100.2% (100.1% in December). Significant positive value reached ‘textiles’ (103.5%) and negative value reached ‘electricity’ (94.7%).

In year-on-year comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 101.8% (101.1% in December). Significant positive value reached ‘wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture’ (108.7%) and negative value reached ‘electricity’ (88.9%).
