Export and Import Prices Increased

Export prices
In month-on-month comparison, export prices increased by 0.8% (after exchange rate adjustment by 0.6%). The biggest increase was recorded in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘products of forestry, logging and related services’ and in ‘basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations’, by 3.7%, 2.8% and 2.3%, respectively. Significantly prices decreased in ‘other non-metallic mineral products’, ‘food products’ and in ‘furniture’, by 0.5%, 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively.
In year-on-year comparison, export prices increased by 4.9% (after exchange rate adjustment by 1.5%). The biggest increase was recorded in ‘other transport equipment’, ‘furniture’ and in ‘motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers’, by 19.8%, 15.1% and 10.4%, respectively. The prices decreased especially in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘products of forestry, logging and related services’ and in ‘products of agriculture, hunting and related services’, by 18.3%, 8.4% and 5.9%, respectively.
Import prices
In month-on-month comparison, import prices increased by 0.4% (after exchange rate adjustment by 0.3%). The biggest increase was recorded in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, by 2.7%, in ‘basic metals’ and in ‘wearing apparel’, both by 1.8%. The prices decreased especially in ‘other manufactured goods’, ‘leather and related products’ and in ‘basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations’, by 1.0%, 0.7% and 0.5%, respectively.
In year-on-year comparison, import prices increased by 3.5% (after exchange rate adjustment by 2.2%). The prices increased significantly in ‘other transport equipment’, ‘coke and refined petroleum products’ and in ‘beverages’, by 16.4%, 10.4% and 9.3%, respectively. Significantly prices decreased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture’ and in ‘paper and paper products’, by 25.5%, 3.2% and 1.6%, respectively.
“In April the export and import prices were significantly affected by year-on-year weakening of the exchange rate of Czech Koruna to Euro and US Dollar. Year-on-year export prices increased by 4.9% and import prices increased by 3.5%. In year-on-year comparison export prices in electricity decreased by 18.3% and import prices by 25.5%”, Vladimír Klimeš, Head of the Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office, noted.
The terms of trade
In month-on-month comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 100.4% (99.7% in March). Significant positive value reached ‘basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations’ (102.8%) and significant negative value reached ‘food products’ (98.9%).
In year-on-year comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 101.4% (101.7% in March). Significant positive value reached ‘chemicals and chemical products’ (105.5%) and significant negative value reached ‘fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment’ (94.9%).
