In 2024 Year-on-Year Export and Import Prices Increased

In December 2024 export prices decreased month-on-month by 0.4%, in year-on-year comparison increased by 4.9%. Import prices decreased month-on-month by 0.2%, year-on-year increased by 3.5%. The terms of trade reached month-on-month the value of 99.8%, year-on-year 101.4%. In 2024 annual export prices increased on average by 3.1% and import prices increased by 1.5%, compared to those in 2023. The terms of trade reached the value of 101.5%.

Export prices

In month-on-month comparison, export prices decreased by 0.4% (after exchange rate adjustment the decrease stayed the same). The prices decreased in ‘waste collection, treatment and disposal services’, ‘furniture’ and in ‘fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment’, by 2.1%, 1.4% and 1.3%, respectively. The prices increased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘products of forestry, logging and related services’ and in ‘products of agriculture, hunting and related services’, by 2.3%, 1.0% and 0.6%, respectively.

In year-on-year comparison, export prices increased by 4.9% (after exchange rate adjustment by 2.3%). Significantly, prices increased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘products of forestry, logging and related services’ and in ‘wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture’, by 54.2%, 12.4% and 11.9%, respectively. Significantly, prices decreased in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, ‘waste collection, treatment and disposal services’ and in ‘other non-metallic mineral products’, by 6.7%, 1.3% and 1.3%, respectively.

In average of 2024, compared to 2023, export prices increased by 3.1% (in 2023 decreased by 0.7%). Prices increased the most in ‘other transport equipment’, ‘furniture’ and in ‘waste collection, treatment and disposal services’, by 12.9%, 12.3% and 7.9%, respectively. Significantly, prices decreased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘coke and refined petroleum products’ and in ‘products of agriculture, hunting and related services’, by 5.4%, 5.1% and 5.1%, respectively.


Import prices

In month-on-month comparison, import prices decreased by 0.2% (after exchange rate adjustment increased by 0.1%). The biggest decrease was recorded in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘paper and paper products’ and in ‘wearing apparel’, by 6.8%, 1.7% and 1.1%, respectively. The prices increased in ‘leather and related products’, ‘furniture’ and in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, by 2.8%, 1.4% and 1.3%, respectively.

In year-on-year comparison, import prices increased by 3.5% (after exchange rate adjustment by 1.1%). The prices increased significantly in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’, and in ‘food products’, by 24.3%, 12.0% and 11.5%, respectively. Significantly decreased prices in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, ‘other non-metallic mineral products’ and in ‘leather and related products’, by 7.6%, 2.9% and 1.8%, respectively.

In average of 2024, compared to 2023, import prices increased on average by 1.5% (in 2023 decreased by 5.7%). Prices increased the most in ‘other transport equipment’, ‘food products’ and in ‘motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers’, by 8.3%, 6.9% and 5.6%, respectively. The prices decreased in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘coke and refined petroleum products’ and in ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’, by 15.8%, 5.7%, and 3.3%, respectively.

“In average of 2024, compared to 2023, export prices increased by 3.1% and import prices increased by 1.5%. The terms of trade reached the value of 101.5%. A significant increase of export and import prices was recorded in the prices of other transport equipment and decrease was recorded in the prices of electricity”, Vladimír Klimeš, Head of the Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office, noted.


The terms of trade

In month-on-month comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 99.8% (100.1% in November). Significant negative value reached especially ‘food products’ (98.3%) and positive value reached ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (109.7%).

In year-on-year comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 101.4% (102.0% in November). Significant positive value reached ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (124.0%) and negative value reached ‘food products’ (92.4%).

In average of 2024, compared to 2023, the terms of trade reached the value of 101.5% (in 2023 reached the value of 105.3%). Significantly positive value reached ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (112.4%) and negative value reached ‘textiles’ (96.2%).
