Export and Import Prices Decreased

Export prices
In month-on-month comparison, export prices decreased by 0.6% (after exchange rate adjustment by 0.3%). The prices decreased significantly in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘coke and refined petroleum products’ and in ‘computer, electronic and optical products’, by 8.9%, 5.3% and 1.7%, respectively. The biggest increase was recorded in ‘waste collection, treatment and disposal services’ and in ‘wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture’, by 3.7% and 3.0%, respectively.
In year-on-year comparison, export prices decreased by 0.5% (after exchange rate adjustment increased by 0.6%). Significantly, prices decreased in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, ‘furniture’ and in ‘chemicals and chemical products’, by 22.7%, 5.3% and 4.7%, respectively. The biggest increase was recorded in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘products of agriculture, hunting and related services’ and in ‘wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture’, by 12.7%, 11.5% and 6.5%, respectively.
Import prices
In month-on-month comparison, import prices decreased by 1.1% (after exchange rate adjustment by 0.8%). The prices decreased significantly in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’, ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’ and in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, by 11.5%, 8.7% and 6.7%, respectively. The prices increased in ‘food products’ and in ‘paper and paper products’, by 2.0% and 0.8%, respectively.
In year-on-year comparison, import prices decreased by 0.8% (after exchange rate adjustment increased by 0.4%). The prices decreased significantly in ‘coke and refined petroleum products’, ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’ and in ‘other transport equipment’, by 24.1%, 6.1% and 5.1%, respectively. The prices increased in ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ and in ‘food products’, by 14.2% and 8.5%, respectively.
“In April the prices of international trade in goods were significantly affected by strengthening of the exchange rate of Czech Koruna to US Dollar. Export and import prices decreased month-on-month and year-on-year, which happened for the first time since December 2023. Month-on-month export prices decreased by 0.6%, and import prices decreased by 1.1%. Year-on-year export prices decreased by 0.5%, and import prices by 0.8%”, Vladimír Klimeš, Head of the Industrial and International Trade Prices Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office, noted.
The terms of trade
In month-on-month comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 100.6% (100.0% in March). Significant positive value reached especially ‘electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning’ (102.9%) and negative value reached ‘paper and paper products’ (98.4%).
In year-on-year comparison, the terms of trade reached the value of 100.3% (100.1% in March). Significant positive value reached ‘wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture’ (107.4%) and negative value reached ‘furniture’ (91.1%).
