Pigmeat and poultry meat production up

"While pigmeat and poultry production at slaughterhouses increased, beef production declined again. Prices paid to agricultural producers for slaughter cattle rose across Europe so much that beef imports, and subsequently the preliminary calculated beef consumption, significantly fell," Markéta Fiedlerová from Agricultural and Forestry Statistics Unit of the CZSO, said.
Meat production and milk collection
In total 16 431 tonnes of beef were produced at slaughterhouses in Q2 2025, i.e. by 1.5% less, y-o-y. It represents 52.9 thous. head of slaughtered cattle (−2.3%). The number of slaughtered cows decreased (−4.1%), while the number of slaughtered bulls negligibly increased (+0.4%) similarly to the number of slaughtered heifers (+1.2%). Pigmeat production amounted to 54 156 tonnes, i.e. by 2.8% more, y-o-y. In total 579.9 thous. pigs were delivered to slaughterhouses. Slaughtering of sows increased, y-o-y, by 6.1%. Poultry slaughterhouses processed 31 099 thous. head of poultry, of which 29 638 thous. were chicken and the rest were hens, ducks, and turkeys. Production of meat of these poultry species1 amounted to 46 786 tonnes (+8.1%, y-o-y). In total 843 614 thous. litres of milk (+1.0%) were purchased from domestic producers by first purchasers in Q2 2025, diaries bought 707 303 thous. litres (−2.0%).
Agricultural producer prices
Agricultural producer prices of cattle for slaughter went up by 28.0%, y-o-y, in Q2 2025 in all categories surveyed; prices of cows and calves for slaughter rose the most (+34.3% and +26.5%, respectively). Farmers received on average 77.01 CZK per kg in live weight or 140.15 CZK per kg in carcass weight for bulls for slaughter. Compared to Q1 2025, this price rose by 13.86 CZK per kg in carcass weight. Prices of pigs for slaughter decreased, y-o-y, by 9.9%. Their average price reached 36.94 CZK per kg in live weight or 48.02 CZK per kg in carcass weight, i.e. by 2.04 CZK per kg in carcass weight more than in Q1 2025. The prices of chicken for slaughter went up by 3.1%, y-o-y. Chicken for slaughter of the first quality class were sold on average for 29.13 CZK per kg in live weight. Agricultural producer prices of milk were by 19.7% higher, y-o-y. The average price of Q‑quality milk reached 13.22 CZK per litre.

1 From 2025 onwards, quarterly data on poultry meat production is available only for the following species: chickens (chicken, hens), ducks, and turkeys. In 2024, the share of meat from these species in total poultry production was 99.95%.
