Meat and milk production slightly went up y-o-y

It was produced 153 329 tonnes of meat in the 3rd quarter of 2007. This amount included 52.8% of pig meat, 12.6% of beef incl. veal and 34.5% of poultry meat. Meat production went up by 0.1% compared to the 3rd quarter of 2006. Milk collection amounted to 604.9 mil. litres and went up by 3.6% y-o-y.

Slaughter and meat production
It was slaughtered 65.6 thous. heads of cattle in the 3rd quarter of 2007, which was the same amount as in the 3rd quarter of 2006. The average carcass weight of cattle went up by 2.3% to 295.1 kg y-o-y. Due to an increase in the average carcass weight, beef production inc. veal went up by 2.4%.
Numbers of slaughtered pigs increased by 1.4% to 931.5 thous. heads y-o-y and their average carcass weight went up by 0.9% to 87.0 kg. As a result, the pig meat production increased by 2.3% y-o-y.
Only a decrease in poultry meat production was recorded - by 3.9% y-o-y.
Meat production in total went up by 0.1% y-o-y. The first y-o-y increase in meat production in total was recorded starting with the 3rd quarter of 2003.

Cattle, pigs and poultry numbers
According to the animal product statistics, cattle population as at 30 June of 2007 decreased by 1.5% to 1,402.9 thous.heads y-o-y, of which cow numbers went down by 2.9% to 564.1 thous.heads.
Pig numbers as at 1st August of 2007 went down by 0.4% to 2,816.2 thous. heads y-o-y, of which sow numbers decreased by 2.7% to 218.1 thous. heads and gilt numbers went down by 8.4% to 82.9 thous. heads.
Poultry numbers as at 30 June of 2007 increased by 5.5% to 24.6 mil. heads y-o-y while hen numbers went down by 10.7% to 5.6 mil. heads.
Agricultural producer prices of cattle, pigs and chicken for slaughter
Agricultural producer prices of cattle for slaughter declined for all cattle categories in the 3rd quarter of 2007 y-o-y. These prices went down by 5.2% for bulls for slaughter, by 2.3% for heifers for slaughter, by 2.3% for cows for slaughter and by 3.1% for calves for slaughter. The average price of bulls for slaughter the EU-quality reached CZK 39.45 per kilogram in live weight and CZK 76.40 per kilogram in carcass weight.
Agricultural producer prices of pigs for slaughter dropped by 4.7% y-o-y. The average price of pigs for slaughter the EU-quality reached CZK 32.07 per kilogram in live weight and CZK 41.87 per kilogram in carcass weight.
Agricultural producer prices of chicken for slaughter the 1st-quality rose by 12.0% y-o-y. The average price of chicken for slaughter the 1st-quality reached CZK 21.23 per kilogram in live weight.

Foreign trade 1) in meat and live animals
According to preliminary results, foreign trade in meat ended in a passive trade balance 3,714 tonnes for beef, 24,684 tonnes for pig meat and 7,179 tonnes for poultry meat in the period from the 1st June to the 31st August of 2007.
Imports in beef went down by 3.7% (by 182 tonnes) whereas exports increased almost twice (by 525 tonnes) y-o-y. Beef was imported predominantly from Germany (24%), Ireland (17%), Austria (17%), Poland (15%) and Slovakia (12%). Exports went mainly to Slovakia (56%), Austria (19%) and Poland (14%).
Imports in pig meat went up by 10.7% (by 3,084 tonnes) and exports increased by 48.1% (by 2,327 tonnes) y-o-y. Pig meat was imported largely from Germany (47%) and further from Austria (17%) and Poland (12%). Exports went predominantly to Slovakia (82%).
Imports in poultry meat dropped by 6.6% (by 864 tonnes,) and exports went down by 3.0% (by 156 tonnes) y-o-y. Poultry meat was imported mainly from Poland (26%) and further from Germany (18%), Slovakia 15%), Brazil (13%) and the Netherlands (13%). The meat went predominantly to Slovakia (44%) and to a lesser extent to Germany (22%), Hungary (8%) and Austria (8%).
Foreign trade in live animals ended in active trade balance 7,927 tonnes for cattle, 1,589 tonnes for pigs and 7,230 tonnes for poultry.
Imports in live cattle increased by 61.9% (by 178 tonnes) and exports went up by 8.7% (by 675 tonnes) y-o-y. Live cattle were imported largely from Slovakia (56%) and to a lesser extent from Germany (15%), Romania (13%) and Italy (10%). Imports went primarily to Austria (48%) and further to Germany (13%) and Italy (9%).
Imports in live pigs increased by 44% (by 516 tonnes) y-o-y and exports went up by 10% (by 284 tonnes). Live pigs were imported predominantly from the Netherlands (46%) and further from Germany (28%), Slovakia (13%) and Denmark (12%). Exports in live pigs were destined firstly for Germany (57%) and Slovakia (37%).
Imports in live poultry decreased by 37,9% (by 1,068 tonnes) y-o-y while exports went up by 34.5% (by 2,306 tonnes). Poultry was imported predominantly from Slovakia (64%) and to a lesser extent from Hungary (13%) and Germany (10%). Export went to Germany (53%), Poland (35%) and to Slovakia (9%).
Milk collection and prices of milk producers
Milk collected to dairies stood at 604.9 mil. litres in the 3rd quarter of 2007. Milk collection increased by 3.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Prices of milk’s agricultural producers rose by 3.5% y-o-y. The average price of the highest Q-quality milk reached CZK 7.95 per liter.

Foreign trade 1) in milk and milk products
Foreign trade in milk and milk products ended in active trade balance 108.3 thous.tonnes for milk and 5.4 thous.tonnes for milk products in the period from the 1st June to 31st August of 2007. Imports in milk and milk products went up by 33.5% (by 19.4 thous.tonnes) and exports increased by 1.6% (by 2.9 thous.tonnes). Milk and milk products were imported firstly from Slovakia (52%), Germany (17%) and Poland (15%). Exports went predominantly to Germany (61%) and to a lesser extent to Slovakia (16%).
