Meat and milk production went down y-o-y

It was produced 153 709 tonnes of meat total in carcass weight in 3rd quarter 2006. This amount included 51.8% of pig meat, 12.4% of beef meat incl. veal and 35.8% of poultry meat. Meat production went down by 2.9% compared to 3rd quarter 2005. Milk collection dropped by 9.0% y-o-y.

Slaughterings and meat production
Numbers of slaughtered cattle incl. calves decreased by 2.2% y-o-y, while their average carcass weight went up by 0.6% to 290.3 kg. As a result, beef meat production inc. veal decreased by 1.6% y-o-y.
Numbers of slaughtered pigs went down by 2.8% y-o-y, as well. Their average carcass weight went down by 0.5% to 86.6 kg and pig meat production decreased by 3.4% y-o-y.
Poultry meat production went down by 2.5% y-o-y.

Cattle, pigs and poultry numbers
According to results of animal products statistics, cattle population increased by 2.7% to 1.4 mil heads y-o-y as of 30 June 2006, of which numbers of suckler cows went up by 23.2%, while numbers of milk cows went down by 2.9% y-o-y.
Pig numbers dropped by 2.2% to 2,8 mil heads as of 1 August 2006 y-o-y, of which sow numbers went down by 11.6% to 224 thousand heads y-o-y.
Numbers of poultry increased by 1.4% to 23.3 mil heads as of 30 June 2006 y-o-y, of which hen numbers went down by 1.1% to 4.9 mil heads.
Agricultural producer prices of cattle, pigs and chicken for slaughter
Prices of agricultural producers of cattle for slaughter were different in each cattle category. These prices went up by 0.9% for bulls for slaughter, by 1.4% for heifers for slaughter and by 1.1% for calves for slaughter y-o-y. On the contrary prices of cows for slaughter went down by 1.8% y-o-y in 3rd quarter. The average price of bulls for slaughter A-quality reached CZK 42.25 per kilogram in live weight and CZK 77.21 per kilogram in carcass weight (average value per period January 2006– September 2006).
Prices of agricultural producers of pigs for slaughter went up by 0.6% y-o-y. The average price of pigs for slaughter 1st-quality reached CZK 31.80 per kilogram in live weight and CZK 41.38 per kilogram in carcass weight (average value per period January 2006 – September 2006).
Prices of agricultural producers of chicken for slaughter 1st-quality decreased by 9.0% y-o-y. The average price of chicken for slaughter 1st-quality reached CZK 19.20 per kilogram in live weight (average value per period January 2006 – September 2006).

Foreign trade in meat and live animals
Foreign trade1) in meat ended in a passive trade balance 4 226 tonnes for beef meat, 23 093 tonnes for pig meat and 7 226 tonnes for poultry meat in the period from 1 June to 31 August 2006.
Beef imports went down by 15.6% and exports increased by 80.6% (by 246 tonnes to 552 tonnes) y-o-y. Beef meat was exported predominantly to Slovakia (63%) and Austria (24%) and imported mainly from Poland (31%,) Austria (24%) and to a lesser extent from Germany (13%).
Imports of pig meat went down by 6.2% and exports decreased by 1.9% y-o-y. Pig meat was exported largely to Slovakia (69%) and imported from Germany (40%) and Poland (23%).
Imports of poultry meat went up by 6.0% whereas exports decreased by 33.7% y-o-y. Poultry meat was exported predominantly to Slovakia (51%), Germany (22%) and the Netherlands (13%). Meat was imported from Poland (23%), Brazil (13%) and Germany (12%).
Foreign trade1) in live animals ended in active trade balance 7 137 tonnes for cattle, 1 894 tonnes for pigs and 3 318 tonnes for poultry.
Imports of live cattle decreased nearly by one a half y-o-y whereas exports went up by 5.1%. Live cattle were exported largely to Austria (28%), Germany (23%) and Greece (10%). Imports went predominantly from Slovakia (76%).
Imports of live pigs increased by 43.8% y-o-y, on the contrary exports decreased by 6.6%. Pig exports were destinated predominantly to Slovakia (50%) and Germany (42%). Live pigs were imported largely from Denmark (33%), the Netherlands (28%), Slovakia (20%) and Germany (19%).
Imports of live poultry decreased by 41.3 y-o-y, while exports went by 64.3%. Live poultry were exported mainly to Poland (46%) and Germany (37%) and imported from Slovakia (86%).
Milk collection and prices of milk producers
Milk collected to dairies stood at 583.7 mil litres in 3rd quarter 2006. Milk collection decreased by 9.0% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Prices of milk agricultural producers went down by 6.0% y-o-y. The average price of the highest Q-quality milk reached CZK 7.86 per liter (average value per period January 2006 – September 2006).

Foreign trade1) in milk and milk products ended in active trade balance 126.3 thousand tonnes for milk and 8.6 thousand tonnes for milk products in the period from 1 June 2006 to 31 August 2006. Exports of milk and milk products went down by 6.5% and imports increased by 51.5% y-o-y. Milk and milk products were exported predominantly to Germany (62%) and Slovakia (16%) and imported largely from Slovakia (43%) Germany (27%), and Poland (23%).
