Meat production incl. poultry went down slightly y-o-y

Meat production totaled 156 026 tonnes in 2nd quarter 2007. This amount included 54.4% of pig meat, 12.6% of beef incl. veal and 33.0% of poultry meat. Meat production in total went down by 1.5% compared to 2nd quarter 2006. Milk collection amounted to 615,7 mill litres and went up by 1.7% y-o-y.

Slaughter and meat production
It was slaughtered 66.2 ths heads of cattle in 2nd quarter 2007, which was less by 2.6% than in 2nd quarter 2006. Average carcass weight went up by 2.5% to 296.0 kg y-o-y. As a result, beef production inc. veal decreased by 0.2%.
Numbers of slaughtered pigs decreased by 0.1% to 969.2 ths heads y-o-y, while their average carcass weight went up by 0.5% to 87.5 kg. Pig meat production increased by 0.4% y-o-y.
Poultry meat production decreased by 4.8% y-o-y.

Cattle, pigs and poultry numbers
According to the livestock census as of 1st April 2007 cattle population increased by 1.3% to 1, 391.4 ths heads. Of which cow numbers went up by 0.2% to 564.7 ths heads y-o-y because of an increase in suckler cow numbers by 10.5% (to 154.3 ths heads).
Pig numbers dropped by 0.4% to 2, 830.4 ths heads y-o-y, of which sow numbers went down by 1.8% to 224.9 ths heads. Poultry numbers decreased by 4.4% to 24.6 mill heads y-o-y, of which hen numbers went down by 0.4% to 6.3 mill heads.
Agricultural producer prices of cattle, pigs and chicken for slaughter
Agricultural producer prices of cattle for slaughter declined for all cattle categories in 2nd quarter 2007 y-o-y. These prices went down by 3.2% for bulls for slaughter, by 3.7% for heifers for slaughter, by 0.5% for cows for slaughter and by 1.3% for calves for slaughter. Average price of bulls for slaughter the EU-quality reached CZK 40.55 per kilogram in live weight and CZK 77.09 per kilogram in carcass weight.
Agricultural producer prices of pigs for slaughter dropped by 9.1% y-o-y. Average price of pigs for slaughter the EU-quality reached CZK 26.94 per kilogram in live weight and CZK 35.36 per kilogram in carcass weight.
Agricultural producer prices of chicken for slaughter the 1st-quality rose by 5.5% y-o-y. Average price of chicken for slaughter the 1st-quality reached CZK 19.99 per kilogram in live weight.

Foreign trade 1) in meat and live animals
According to preliminary results, foreign trade in meat ended in a passive trade balance 2,922 tonnes for beef, 21,969 tonnes for pig meat and 6,730 tonnes for poultry meat in the period from 1 March 2007 to 31 May 2007.
Imports in beef went down by 13.3% (by 584 tonnes) whereas exports increased by 69.9% (by 366 tonnes) y-o-y. Beef was imported predominantly from Austria (21%), Poland (20%), Germany (19%) and further from Ireland (13%) and Slovakia (11%). Exports went mainly to Slovakia (43%), Austria (27%) and Poland (27%).
Imports in pig meat went up by 6.1% (by 1,647 tonnes) and exports increased by 15.9% (by 914 tonnes) y-o-y. Pig meat was imported largely from Germany (36%) and further from Poland (20%) and Austria (19%). Exports went predominantly to Slovakia (80%).
Imports in poultry meat dropped by 30.3% (by 4,987 tonnes,) to the contrary exports went up by 6.0% (by 268 tonnes) y-o-y. Poultry meat was imported mainly from Poland (31%) and further from Brazil (17%) Hungary (17%) and Germany (12%). Meat went predominantly to Slovakia (46%) and to a lesser extent to Germany (24%) and the Netherlands (13%).
Foreign trade in live animals ended in active trade balance 7,365 tonnes for cattle, 1,910 tonnes for pigs and 8,072 tonnes for poultry.
Imports in live cattle increased twice (by 301 tonnes) y-o-y whereas exports went down by 12.5% (by 1,134 tonnes). Live cattle were imported largely from Slovakia (49%) and Italy (20%). Imports went primarily to Austria (43%) and Germany (16%).
Imports in live pigs increased by 35.3% (by 425 tonnes) y-o-y, to the contrary exports decreased by 21.2% (by 950 tonnes). Live pigs were imported predominantly from Germany (56%), the Netherlands (19%) and Slovakia (14%). Exports in live pigs were destined firstly for Germany (54.0%), Slovakia (33%) and Austria (9%).
Imports in live poultry decreased by 54.0% (by 1,561 tonnes) y-o-y, while exports went up by 44.7% (by 2,905 tonnes). Poultry was imported predominantly from Slovakia (76%) and to a lesser extent from Germany (16%) and exported mainly to Germany (51%) and Poland (39%).
Milk collection and prices of milk producers
Milk collected to dairies stood at 615.7 mill litres in 2nd quarter 2007. Milk collection increased by 1.7% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Prices of milk’s agricultural producers declined by 1.9% y-o-y. Average price of the highest Q-quality milk reached CZK 7.79 per liter.

External trade 1) in milk and milk products
External trade in milk and milk products ended in active trade balance 119 ths tonnes for milk and 3 ths tonnes for milk products in the period from 1 March 2007 to 31 May 2007. Imports in milk and milk products went up by 31.9% (by 20.2 ths tonnes) and exports increased by 18.6% (by 32.3 ths tonnes). Milk and milk products were imported firstly from Slovakia (45%), Germany (33%) and Poland (12%). Exports went predominantly to Germany (58%) and further to Slovakia (16%).
