Y-o-y decrease in poultry meat production and milk collection

It was produced 158 897 tonnes of meat total in carcass weight in 2nd quarter 2006. This amount included 53.4% of pig meat, 12.4% of beef incl. veal, 0.1% of sheep meat and 34.1% of poultry meat. Meat production went down by 2.0% compared to 2nd quarter 2005. Milk collection dropped by 7.5% y-o-y.

Slaughterings and meat production
Numbers of cattle for slaughter incl. calves decreased by 1.7% y-o-y, while their average slaughter weight went up by 1.5% to 532.6 kg. As a result, beef production inc. veal decreased by 0.3% y-o-y.
Numbers of pigs for slaughter total increased by 1.7% y-o-y and their average slaughter weight went up by 1.5% to 111.2 kg. Pig meat production increased by 1.6% y-o-y.
Poultry meat production decreased by 7.8% y-o-y.

Cattle, pigs and poultry numbers
According to livestock census as of 1st April 2006, both cattle and pig population continued to fall slowly. Cattle numbers decreased by 1.7% y-o-y, of which cow numbers went down by 1.7% as well.
Pig numbers dropped by 1.3% y-o-y, of which sow numbers went down by 1.5% y-o-y. On the opposite numbers of poultry increased by 1.4% y-o-y, of which hen numbers went up by 6.3%.
Agricultural producers’ prices of cattle, pigs and chicken for slaughter
Prices of agricultural producers of cattle for slaughter were different in each cattle category. These prices went up by 1.6% for bulls for slaughter and by 1.7% for heifers for slaughter y-o-y. On the contrary prices went down by 1.6% for cows for slaughter and by 1.5% for calves for slaughter. The average price of bulls for slaughter A-quality reached CZK 42.08 per kilogram in live weight and CZK 76.38 per kilogram in carcass weight (average value per period January 2006– July 2006).
Prices of agricultural producers of pigs for slaughter went down by 2.7% y-o-y. The average price of pigs for slaughter 1st-quality reached CZK 30.24 per kilogram in live weight and CZK 39.14 per kilogram in carcass weight (average value per period January 2006– July 2006).
Prices of agricultural producers of chicken for slaughter 1st-quality decreased by 10.3% y-o-y. The average price of chicken for slaughter 1st-quality reached CZK 19.41 per kilogram in live weight (average value per period January 2006 – July 2006).

Foreign trade in meat and live animals
According to preliminary results, external trade1) in meat ended in a passive trade balance 3 722 tonnes for beef meat, 21 007 tonnes for pig meat and 11 706 tonnes for poultry meat in the period from 1 March 2006 to 31 May 2006.
Beef imports went up by 1.7% and exports increased by 90.7% (by 301 tonne to 633 tonne) y-o-y. Beef meat was exported predominantly to Austria (32%) and Slovakia (28%) and imported mainly from Poland (43%) and to a lesser extent from Austria (16%), Slovakia (12%) and Germany (12%).
Imports of pig meat went up by 4.1% and exports went up by 14% y-o-y. Pig meat was exported largely to Slovakia (69%) and imported from Germany (38%) and Poland (21%).
Imports of poultry meat went up by 9.1% whereas exports decreased by 40% y-o-y. Poultry meat was exported predominantly to Slovakia (62%) and Germany (19%) and imported from Poland (22%), Germany (12%) and the Netherlands (13%).
External trade1) in live animals ended in active trade balance 8 530 tonnes for cattle, 3 297 tonnes for pigs and 3 461 tonne for poultry.
Imports of live cattle decreased by 26.8% y-o-y whereas exports went up by 3.5%. Live cattle were exported largely to Austria (39%), Germany (20%) and Greece (11%). Imports went from Slovakia (79%) and Germany (10%).
Imports of live pigs increased 1.4 times y-o-y, on the contrary exports decreased by 9.4%. Pig exports were destinated predominantly to Slovakia (46%), Germany (37%) and Hungary (10%). Live pigs were imported largely from Denmark (42%), the Netherlands (22%) and Slovakia (22%).
Imports of live poultry decreased by a half y-o-y while exports went up 1.4 times. Live poultry were exported mainly to Poland (43%) and Germany (29%) and imported to a large extent from Slovakia (94%).
Milk collection and prices of milk producers
Milk collected to dairies stood at 605.3 mil litres in 2nd quarter 2006. Milk collection decreased by 7.5% compared to the same period of the previous year.
Prices of milk’s agricultural producers went down by 4.3% y-o-y. The average price of the highest Q-quality milk reached CZK 8.03 per liter (average value per period January 2006 – July 2006).

External trade 1) in milk and milk products
External trade 1) in milk and milk products ended in active trade balance 99.3 thousand tonnes for milk and 5.5 tonnes for milk products in the period from 1 March 2006 to 31 May 2006. Exports of milk and milk products went up by 23.4% and imports increased by 57.5% y-o-y. Milk and milk products were exported predominantly to Germany (62%) and Slovakia (18%) and imported largely from Germany (33%), Slovakia (31%) and Poland (29%).
