Q3 2012, the number of guests’ overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments increased by 7.8% year-on-year, of which non-residents by 12.6% and residents by 4.1%. In total, there were more guests by 10.0% in this period, foreigners by 11.2% and residents by 8.9%.
The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totalled 15.3 million in Q3 2012; this was by 7.8% more than in the same period of the previous year. Remarkable growth in the number of overnight stays by 12.6% was recorded by non-residents, residents stayed overnight by 4.1% more than in Q3 2011. A year-on-year growth was recorded by almost all categories of collective accommodation establishments. Hotels of all categories went up on average by 6.9%, pensions by 5.2% and camp sites even by 17.1%. From regional point of view, the highest increase was shown in Ustecky region by 21.8%, then in Karlovarsky region by 19.8% and Moravskoslezsky region by 15.9%. In two regions only, Olomoucky and Jihomoravsky, the decrease was recorded, by 1.2% and 0.5% respectively.
A total of 4.9 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments; this was 10.0% more year-on-year. Non-residents contributed to this growth more, their increase was 11.2%, and the number of residents went up by 8.9%. There was a higher number of guests in all categories of accommodation establishments compared to the same period of previous year. Hotels reported raised interest of guests by 8.6%, pensions by 10.3% and campsites even by 18.5%. This year summer season was very successful for providers of camps. There were by 115 thousand guests more in this type of accommodation than last year; domestic guests by 93 thousand (by 17.0%) and foreigners by 22 thousand (by 28.3%) more. Regionally, the growth was surveyed in all regions of the Czech Republic. The highest increased was recorded in Ustecky region (by 19.1%), Jihocesky (by 17.1%) and Plzensky region (by 15.4%). The smallest increase was shown in region Jihomoravsky (1.2%).
The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came traditionally from Germany. In the reference period it was 440 thousands, i.e. by 5.0% more than a year ago and Germans spent here almost 1.4 million nights. Second largest group were guests from Russia (184 thousand) with the y-o-y increase in arrivals by 19.1%. Third place was taken by citizens from Poland (134 thousand, by 8.1% more y-o-y). Over 100 thousand of tourists came also from the USA, Slovakia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Spa accommodation establishments were visited by 224 thousand guests in Q3 2012; this was 13.7% up y-o-y. This was especially due to a high interest of foreign guests; their number in Czech spa resorts increased by 28.4% more than a year ago. The number of residents went up by 1.6% only. Majority of non-residents (89%) travelled to Karlovarsky region. Foreign guest extended their stays (by two days on average) but in contrast domestic guests shortened their trips by 2.4 days.
Rooms of hotels and pensions were used from 49.9%; this was by 0.5 p.p. less than in the same period of the previous year. Five-star hotels with the highest utilisation from all hotels (70.9%) increased their usage by 2.4 p.p. Utilisation of four-star hotels also increased by 0.4 p.p. to the level of 64.7%. A decrease reported three-star hotels (by 1.6 p.p) and other hotels and pensions (by 0.1 p.p.).
