Guests from the Czech Republic (CR) were prevailing, 7 out of 10 overnight stays were made by residents. The number of overnight stays of residents was higher than in the Q1 2019 before the pandemic.

“In the reference period, 2.8 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments, which was ten times more compared to the previous year. The number of guests from abroad increased sixteen times and also the number of domestic guests accommodated significantly more than last year,” Marie Boušková, Director of the Trade, Transport, Services, Tourism, and Environmental Statistics Department of the CZSO, stated.

Hotels recorded an increase in the total number of guests to 2 million arrivals (by 939.6%). Arrivals in boarding houses accounted for 17% of the volume of the number of guests and the proportion of other accommodation establishments was 11% of accommodated guests. In the first quarter of 2022, the most visited Regions of the CR were, besides Prague, also the Královéhradecký Region and the Liberecký Region, which are suitable for spending winter holidays.

“The number of guests in collective accommodation establishments significantly increased compared to the previous year; however, the comparison basis is low due to the last years pandemic restrictions. In the surveyed accommodation establishments, Germans still made a fourth of guests from abroad (234 thousand arrivals, index 3 583.5%). The total number of guests includes data related to Ukrainian nationals who paid for their accommodation themselves. However, with regards to the war conflict in the Ukraine, operators of accommodation establishments were not able to distinguish in all cases whether they are tourists or refugees. Therefore, also persons who cannot be objectively considered to be tourism participants according to international recommendations could have been included in the number of guests.
