Q3 2017, the number of guests in collective accommodation establishments increased by 5.9% and the number of overnight stays by 4.2%. The trend of rising occupancy has been repeatedly confirmed in the main season.
The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totaled 19.9 million in Q3 2017; this was by 4.2% up than in the same period of the previous year. The number of nights of residents went up by 3.6%; foreign guests spent by 5.1% more nights in accommodation establishments. A year-on-year increase was recorded by almost all categories of accommodation establishment except for hostels for tourists and holiday dwellings. The number of overnight stays in hotels went up by 5.1%, in pensions by 7.2% and in campsites by 5.0%. From regional point of view, the highest progress was reported from Ustecky region (+13.6%) mainly due to an increase of the number of non-residents. Non-residents in Ustecky region spent by 25.4% more nights compared to previous year. Also accommodation establishments in South Moravia showed an increase in the number of nights (+12.2%), both residents (+12.3%) and non-residents (+11.9%).
A total of 7.0 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments during the surveyed period; this was y-o-y increase by 5.9%. Both domestic and foreign guests went up. There were more residents by 650 thousand than guests from abroad. The numbers of domestic guests went up by 6.1%, foreigners by 5.8%. Occupancy of hotels increased by 6.7% y-o-y, in pensions there were more tourists by 8.5% and campsites welcomed by 5.9% more guests than the last year. From the regional point of view, an increase was shown in all regions of the Czech Republic. The highest increase recorded Ustecky region, where the number of guests went up by 16.8% y-o-y. Over 10% increase was shown by accommodation establishments in Karlovarsky region (+12.3%) and Jihomoravsky region (+10.8%).
The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came as usual from Germany. Collective accommodation establishments visited more than half million Germans. Compared to the same period of previous year their number went up by 3.6%. The second largest group of foreign guests during the summer period was visitors from Slovakia (216 thousand) with y-o-y increase by 5.4%. The third place was taken by Poland (199 thousand arrivals, y-o-y increase by 4.1%).
From the top ten countries, the highest growth was shown by visitors from China (+31.9%). Above-average interest in accommodation of surveyed establishments was shown by Russians (+24.4%) and Koreans (+20.0%). These arrivals from China and South Korea for the first three quarters exceeded the volume of visits from these countries for the whole last year. From important incoming countries the decrease was shown by guest from the UK (-7.3%). Occupancy of guest form Italy went down too, by 1.1%. It is worth noticing that from the ranking of Top 10 countries guests from Israel took the ninth place with y-o-y growth by 12.0% in the number of overnight stays. Israeli guests stayed in establishments in average longer period (4.5 nights) than other visitors and thus spent higher number of nights with lower number of arrivals.
