Q2 2013, the number of guests’ overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments decreased by 4.0% year-on-year, of which residents by 8.8% and non-residents by 0.2%. The total number of arrivals went down by 1.3%, domestic guests stayed overnight by 3.4% less and foreigners arrived by 0.4% more.
The number of overnight stays in collective accommodation establishments totalled 9.4 million in Q2 2013; this was by 4.0% less than in the same period of the previous year. Non-residents (their number of overnight stays went down by 8.8%) contributed to the decrease more than residents (a decrease by 0.2%). In hotels, there was a decrease of the number of overnight stays in average by 0.2%; pensions went down by 9.9% y-o-y and camp sites even by 27.3%. From regional point of view, the highest drop was shown by accommodation establishments in Kralovehradecky region by 12.1% and Pardubicky region by 11.4%. In contrast there was a growth in the number of overnight stays only in four regions. An increase over one percentage point was reported by Olomoucky (by 1.4%) and Zlinsky region (by 1.3%).
A total of 3.5 million guests arrived in collective accommodation establishments; this was 1.3% less than in Q2 2012. While the number of foreign guests went slightly up (by 0.4%); domestic guests stayed overnight in the last quarter less by 3.4%. Only hotels reported a growth by 1.7%, pensions on the contrary recorded a decrease by 8.1% in the number of guests. Camps also visited fewer guests than a year ago (by 28.5%) and the demand for other collective accommodation establishments went down by 7.2%. From the regional point of view, an increase was shown in 5 out of 14 regions of the Czech Republic only. The highest increase was in Olomoucky region by 7.3% and Zlinsky region by 7.2%. The highest decrease was reported in the western Bohemia, where Plzensky region was visited by 13.2% fewer guests than in the same period of previous year.
The highest number of foreign guests (by nationality) came traditionally from Germany (357 thousand); this was by 6.9% lower result than a year ago. The second largest group was guests from Russia (199 thousand) with the y-o-y increase in arrivals by 7.4%. Next places occupied visitors from the United States of America with 118 thousand arrivals and Poland with 114 thousand guests. At the tenth place of an imaginary ranking of countries, from which the most foreign guests arrived, was China with a y-o-y growth by 16.4%, i.e. 44 thousand arrivals.
Spa accommodation establishments visited 202 thousand guests in Q2 2013; this was 7.5% up y-o-y, where the number of residents went up by 2.3% and non-residents even by 13.4%. Foreign guest cut their stays in spas by 7.9% to 8.5 nights in average and domestic by 23.3% to 7.9 nights. In Karlovarsky region, which was constantly showing the share more than half of the number of arrivals as well as overnight stays in spa establishments, the number of arrivals of non-residents increased by 8.4%; the number of residents on contrary dropped by 9.0%.
Rooms of hotels and boarding houses (pensions) were used from 37.7%; this was by 0.1 p.p. more than in the same period of the previous year. Five-star hotels with the highest utilisation from all categories of hotels (59.1%) increased their usage by 1.0 p.p. Utilisation of four-star hotels decreased by 0.8 p.p. to the level of 52.6%. A decrease reported also three-star hotels (by 1.1 p.p.); in contrast other hotels and pensions raised their utilisation by 0.6 p.p.
