Between 1 January and 30 June this year, the population of the Czech Republic fell from 10,909,500 to 10,882,341. The total population decrease of 27.2 thousand was due to both natural change with a balance of −20.3 thousand and net international migration with a balance of −6.9 thousand. There were 49.6 thousand immigrants from abroad to the Czech Republic; it was 9.6 thousand fewer than in the previous year. A total of 56.4 thousand people emigrated from the Czech Republic abroad, 3.2 thousand fewer year-on-year. The decline in population due to international migration was primarily caused by a high number of people whose residence permits in Czechia expired at the end of March. Citizens of Ukraine predominated in both migration flows.

During the first six months of 2025, 37.4 thousand children were born alive, which was 4.9 thousand, or by 12%, fewer year-on-year. This is the fourth year in a row that the birth rate has been declining. Both number of children born to married women (19.7 thousand) and unmarried women (17.7 thousand) fell down at similar rate. 47.3% of children were born outside of marriage. The most children were born to women aged 30–32, or women born in 1992–1994.
"During the first half this year, 57.7 thousand Czech residents died. It was almost two thousand, or 4%, more than in the same period of 2024. The number of deaths increased year-on-year in all five-year age groups over 70," says Michaela Němečková from the Demographic Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office. Relatively most significant increase in deaths was in the highest age groups of 100+ and 95–99 years (by 25% and 14%, respectively), but in absolute numbers, it was among people aged 85–89 (by 0.7 thousand). The highest number of deaths were in the age groups of 80–84 years (10.1 thousand) and 75–79 years (9.7 thousand).
There were 17.3 thousand couples entered into marriage, which is by 1.6 thousand, or 9%, less than a year ago. This is the third year in a row that the number of marriages has been decreasing. Most of the grooms were aged 30–34, and most of the brides were aged 25–29. In 64% of cases, two single people entered into a marriage.
A total of 10.4 thousand marriages ended in divorce, the same number as in the first half of 2024. The most common divorces were those involving marriages that had lasted six years. The most divorced men and women were at the age of 45–49 years. 59% of divorced couples had at least one minor child together. At least 10,000 children were affected by the divorces.
