The total balance was affected negatively mainly by deepening of the trade deficit in 'coke and refined petroleum products' by CZK 4.8 bn, in ‘crude petroleum and natural gas’ by CZK 3.2 bn and in 'computer, electronic and optical products' by CZK 1.6 bn.

In May 2026, the positive trade balance with EU Member States increased by CZK 3.9 bn, yoy. The trade deficit with non-EU countries deepened by CZK 4.1 bn.

Imports grew year-on-year faster than exports also in May, although the gap in growth rates narrowed compared to the previous month. Trade in computers and electronic and optical equipment was the main driver of growth in both directions of international trade. Exports of machinery and equipment also rose significantly," says Zdeněk Skalák, Head of the Trade Balance Unit of the Czech Statistical Office.

Month-on-month, the seasonally adjusted exports increased by 1.4%, imports by 0.1%.
