Rates of employment, unemployment and economic activity - March 2015

The employment rate (the share of the employed persons in the age group 15 – 64 years, as percentage), seasonally adjusted, reached 69.8% in March 2015 and increased by 1.3 percentage point (p.p.) compared to that in March 2014. The male employment rate was 77.5%; the female employment rate was 61.9%, both seasonally adjusted. The employment rate of persons aged 15 – 29 years, seasonally adjusted, was 47.1%, in the age group 30 – 49 years it attained 85.1%, and in the age group 50 – 64 years it got to 66.1%.

The general unemployment rate of the aged 15 – 64 years (the share of the unemployed in the labour force, that is in the total number of the employed and the unemployed, as percentage), seasonally adjusted, reached 5.9% in March 2015 and decreased by 0.7 p.p., year-on-year. The male unemployment rate, seasonally adjusted, attained 5.1%; the female employment rate was 6.9%.

Today, Eurostat is to publish the monthly unemployment rate, consistent in terms of methodology applied, within its news release, yet for the age group 15 – 74 years. The age group 65 – 74 years is characterized by a low number of unemployed persons and therefore there was a slightly lower general unemployment rate in the group 15-74 years of age, reached 5.8% in March 2015. Data for the Czech Republic are based on monthly data from the Labour Force Sample Survey (LFSS).

The News Release includes time series of basic indicators of the labour market, consistent in terms of methodology, back to 1993. Tables in annex contain seasonally adjusted absolute numbers of the employed and unemployed persons, respectively.

Data source: CZSO, Labour Force Sample Survey conducted in selected dwelling households; collective accommodation establishments are not included in the survey. The LFSS results have been grossed up to the total population of the Czech Republic using data of the population statistics as at 1 January 2014 and the following prediction of the population development in 2014 and in the first three months of 2015.
