Harvest Estimates - September 2026

This year’s last estimate confirms lower production of most crops

Publication Date: 23. 10. 2026

Product Code: 270150-26

This year’s last harvest estimate as at 30 September confirmed a year-on-year (y-o-y) decrease in production of basic cereals (−16.0%), rape seed (−21.4%), as well as of poppy (−13.5%). Lower harvest of most of the crops with later harvest date is also expected, i.e. potatoes (−20.8%), sugar beet (−17.4%), soya (−13.0%), grain maize (−33.0%), and green maize (−19.3%). On the other hand, thanks to a considerable increase in the sown area, the estimated production of sunflower seed is by a third higher, year-on-year (+30.9%).

“This year’s last harvest estimate confirmed lower production of most of agricultural crops. Spring frosts, drought, and high temperatures during the vegetation period entailed decreases in per hectare yields, which was reflected in lower production of cereals and rape seed as well as crops with later harvest date, especially potatoes, sugar beet, and maize. Higher production is only expected as for sunflower thanks to the larger sown area,” Dagmar Pospíšilová from the Agricultural and Forestry Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), said.

The estimated potato harvest in the amount of 582 thousand tonnes is by a fifth lower, y-o-y (−20.8%) and sugar beet is to be harvested in the amount of 3.260 mil. tonnes (−17.4%).

On the other hand, thanks to the considerable enlargement of the sown area, by a third more sunflower seed is estimated to have been harvested, namely 77 thousand tonnes (+30.9%). Field peas for grain was harvested in the amount of 104 thousand tonnes, almost the same as in the last year (+0.8%). However, what is lower, year-on-year, is estimated harvest of soya (70 thousand tonnes; −13.0%) and poppy (25 thousand tonnes, −13.5%).

This year’s last estimate refined harvest (production) of rape seed to be in the amount of 803 thousand tonnes. It is a y-o-y decrease by 21.4%. The estimated production is the lowest since 2005.

The estimate also confirmed a y-o-y decrease in the harvest of basic cereals by 16.0% to 6.459 mil. tonnes. The expected harvest of grain maize in the amount of 538 thousand tonnes is by a third lower, year-on-year (−33.0%). The total harvest of cereals including grain maize is thus 6.997 mil. tonnes, which is a decrease by 17.6% compared to the last year. The estimated harvest is the second lowest in the last decade.

Harvest estimate of green maize in the amount of 6.447 mil. tonnes is by 19.3% lower, year-on-year. A considerable decrease in production of clover and lucerne is also expected (−24.8% and −17.3%, respectively).
