Harvest Estimates - July 2026

Harvest estimates confirm lower production of cereals and rape seed

Publication Date: 07. 08. 2026

Product Code: 270150-26

The second estimate of this year’s harvest as at 15 July confirmed a decrease in the production of both basic cereals and rape seed. It is expected that basic cereals will be harvested in the amount of 6 392 thous. tonnes; it is by 16.9% less than last year. Harvest of rape seed in the amount of 808 thous. tonnes is by a fifth lower (−20.9%). Also estimated poppy production in the amount of 28 thous. tonnes is lower, year-on-year (−5.1%).

“This years harvest of basic cereals is expected, according to the second estimate, to be in the amount of 6.39 million tonnes. The estimate confirmed a below average harvest, which should be by 1.3 million tonnes lower, compared to the previous year, and at the same time the lowest for the last 14 years. Despite that, Czechia is not endangered by the lack of cereals thanks to a rather high reserve from the last years harvest. It is also good news that this years harvest is going on fast, which helps preserve quality of the harvested grain,“ Renata Vodičková, Head of the Agricultural and Forestry Statistics Unit of the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO), stated.

The refined estimate of this year’s harvest of basic cereals (excluding grain maize) is 6 392 thousand tonnes. Compared to the last year that was above average, it is a decrease by 16.9% and in comparison with the five-year average the estimate is by 13.1% lower. In comparison to the first estimate from June, the expected production decreased by 75 thousand tonnes (−1.2%).

The per hectare yields of all basic cereals are lower, year-on-year, which is reflected in the expected decrease of harvest of winter common wheat, both spring and winter barley, oats, and rye. A higher production, thanks to expansion of sown areas, is only expected as for spring common wheat and triticale.

The harvest of winter common wheat is estimated to be in the amount of 4 221 thous. tonnes (−17.0%), spring barley in the amount of 862 thous. tonnes (−24.3%), winter barley in the amount of 637 thous. tonnes (−10.5%), triticale in the amount of 234 thous. tonnes (+6.4%), oats in the amount of 150 thous. tonnes (−44.8%), spring common wheat in the amount of 143 thous. tonnes (+44.4%), and rye in the amount of 106 thous. tonnes (−5.4%).

“The drought was markedly reflected in this years harvest of oil seed crops. The estimated rape seed production is by a fifth lower, year-on-year, and it is the lowest harvest for the last 21 years. Growers of poppy also report lower yields. The total poppy production, however, exceeds the five-year average thanks to the expansion of its sown area,“ Dagmar Pospíšilová from the Agricultural and Forestry Statistics Unit of the CZSO stated.

The expected harvest (production) of rape seed in the amount of 808 thous. tonnes is by a fifth lower than the last year’s harvest (−20.9%). Compared to the June estimate, there was a decrease by further 38 thous. tonnes (−4.5%) and the current estimate of rape seed production remains markedly below the five-year average (−26.1%).

The estimate of poppy production in the amount of 28 thous. tonnes is by 5.1% lower, year-on-year; however, it exceeds the five-year average by a tenth (10.0%).
