Average wage rose by 4% really

In Q3 2004 , the seasonally adjusted average gross monthly wage per actual person was 2.4% up on Q2 2004 (in nominal terms).

The nominal average wage was CZK 17 738 and increased by CZK 1 205 (+7.3%) year-on-year . Over the same period , consumer prices rose by 3.2%, the real wage rising by 4.0%.

In the business sphere, the average wage increased by CZK 1 177 (+7.0%) to CZK 17 943 and the real wage increased by 3.7%. After its rather distinct acceleration in Q1 2004, the average wage growth rate decelerated in Q2 2004 to its level in 2003 and then accelerated again in Q3 2004.

In the non-business sphere the average wage grew by CZK 1 303 (+8.3%) year-on-year to CZK 17 028, whilst the real wage grew by 4.9%., The wage development in this sphere was affected by the adjustment to salaries and wages of employees in public services and administration (the transition from 12-grade salary scale to 16-grade one) effective as of 1 January 2004, which contributed to higher growth of wages in Q1 2004. On the other hand, the reduction in another (13th) pay from 50% to 10% resulted in a year-on-year drop in Q2 2004.

The inter-industry wage differentiation diminished slightly in Q3 2004. The variation coefficient of average wages (by CZ-NACE division) dropped by 0.7 percentage points year-on-year to 32.7%.

The highest average wage per actual person (by CZ-NACE section) was recorded for financial intermediation (CZK 33 741) and electricity, gas and water supply (CZK 21 345), while the lowest was paid in hotels and restaurants (CZK 13 013) and fishing (CZK 13 269).

In Q1 to Q3 2004 , the average wage amounted to CZK 17 418, which translates into an increase of CZK 1 092 (+6.7%) on the corresponding period of the previous year. Consumer prices increased by 2.7% and the real wage by 3.9%. In the business sphere the average wage increased by CZK 1 162 (+7.1%) to CZK 17 599 and the real wage by 4.3%. In the non-business sphere the average wage increased by CZK 861 (+5.4%) to CZK 16 808, the real wage rising by 2.6%.

By CZ-NACE section, the lowest relative growth of nominal wages was recorded for health and social work (+2.9%), public administration and defence, compulsory social security (+4.7%), and hotels and restaurants (+5.1%), while the highest was reported by construction (+8.8%) and manufacturing (+8.2%¨).

The highest average wages are achieved for a long time by internationally owned companies (CZK 21 950). On the other hand, the lowest wages are recorded for entities owned by cooperatives (CZK 11 731).
