Growth of wages in Q2 still high

In Q2 2007, the average gross monthly nominal wage was CZK 21 462, which is by 7.4% higher year-on-year, real wage grew by 4.9%. In the business sphere, the average wage rose by 7.8%, in the non-business sphere by 5.9%.
In Q1-Q2 2007 the average wage increased by 7.6% and reached CZK 20 938, the real wage increased by 5.5%.

In Q2 2007, the seasonally adjusted average gross monthly nominal wage (hereinafter referred to as the ‘average wage’ only) per actual person was 1.6% up on Q1 2007.

The average wage amounted to CZK 21 462, and was higher by CZK 1 480 (7.4%) than in the corresponding period of 2006. Consumer prices in Q2 2007 compared to the same period of 2006 rose by 2.4%, with the real wage rising by 4.9%. The average wage rose by CZK 1 571 (7.8%) to CZK 21 687 in the business sphere, with the real wage rising by 5.3%. In the non-business sphere, the average wage rose by CZK 1 153 (5.9%) to CZK 20 673, with the real wage rising by 3.4%.

In Q2 2007, wage differences between industries increased compared to the corresponding period of 2006. The variation coefficient of average wages (by CZ-NACE division) grew by 2.3 percentage point to 37.2%.

The lowest relative growth of the nominal wage was recorded in (CZ-NACE sections) fishing (+1.9%), electricity, gas, steam and hot water supply (+3.2%) and health and social work (+4.4%), the highest growth was recorded in wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles and personal and household goods (+10.6%), hotels and restaurants (+10.2%) and real estate, renting and business activities (+9.1%). The highest nominal wage (financial intermediation) was roughly 2.7 times higher than the lowest nominal wage (hotels and restaurants).

Evan greater difference is apparent in average wages according to the institutional sector. In the long term, the highest average nominal wages are reached in the financial institutions sector (CZK 41 352 in Q2 2007). The lowest wages (CZK 13 829) were recorded in the households sector (i.e. wages of employees employed by unincorporated natural persons).

In Q1-Q2 2007 the average gross monthly nominal wage reached CZK 20 938, the increase made up CZK 1 485 (7.6%) year-on-year. Consumer prices rose in the given period by 2.0%, the real wage rising by 5.5%. In the business sphere the average wage increased by CZK 1 578 (8.1%) to CZK 21 174, the real wage by 6.0%. In the non-business sphere, the average wage rose by CZK 1 150 (6.1%) to CZK 20 106, with the real wage rising by 4.0%.
