Average nominal wage increased by 6.9% in Q2 2006

In Q2 2006, the average gross monthly nominal wage was CZK 20 036, which is 6.9% higher year-on-year, real wage grew by 3.9%. In the business sphere average wage rose by 7.1%, in the non-business sphere by 6.0%.
In January-June 2006, average wage increased by 7.0% and reached CZK 19 484, real wage rose by 4.0%.

In Q2 2006, the seasonally adjusted average gross monthly nominal wage per actual person was 1.4% up on Q1 2006.
The average gross monthly nominal wage (hereinafter referred to as the ‘average wage’ only) amounted to CZK 20 036, and was higher by CZK 1 291 (6.9%) than in the corresponding period of 2005. Consumer prices in Q2 2006 compared to the same period of 2005 rose by 2.9%, with the real wage rising by 3.9%. Average wage rose by CZK 1 346 (7.1%) to CZK 20 182 in the business sphere, with the real wage rising by 4.1%. In the non-business sphere, the average wage rose by CZK 1 098 (6.0%) to CZK 19 528, with the real wage rising by 3.0%.
In Q2 2006, wage differences between industries slightly increased compared to the corresponding period in 2005. The variation coefficient of average wages (by CZ-NACE division) grew by 1.0 percentage point to 36.1%.
The lowest relative growth of nominal wages was recorded in the following kinds of activities (CZ-NACE sections): hotels and restaurants (+4.5%), fishing (+4.6%), and public administration and defence, compulsory social security (+5.6%). The highest relative growth occurred in electricity, gas and water supply (+11.3%), health and social work and veterinary activities (+9.5%) and in financial intermediation (+8.0%). The highest nominal wage (financial intermediation) was roughly 3 times higher than the lowest nominal wage (hotels and restaurants).
Evan greater difference is apparent in average wages according to the institutional sector. In the long term the highest average nominal wages are reached in the financial institutions sector (CZK 40 260 in Q2 2006). The lowest wages (CZK 12 309) were recorded in the households sector (i.e. wages of employees employed by unincorporated natural persons).
In January-June 2006, the average wage reached CZK 19 484, rising by CZK 1 269 (+7.0%) year-on-year. Consumer prices rose by 2.9% and the real wage by 4.0% in the same period. The business sphere saw its average wage grow by CZK 1 327 (+7.2%) to CZK 19 635, with the real wage rising by 4.2%. In the non-business sphere, the average wage went up by CZK 1 065 (+5.9%) to CZK 18 960 and an increase of 2.9% was recorded for the real wage.
